Annabeth

The school books arrived on Monday.

I tore open the tape on the box, pulling out the textbooks I'd need for this year. The scent wafted through the room, and I grinned.

The twins never understood how I could possibly be excited about new books, or old books, or books in general, the savage creatures that they are. They sniffed in disgust as I pulled out my stationary, and ran downstairs to the kitchen.

We'd ordered the books, as well as some files I might need, and some stationary that apparently I didn't already have. I set about organizing them, stuffing the books in a cabinet near my bed, and placing the stationary on my desk. I'd worry about them when I needed them.

When I was sure the box had been emptied, I flopped on my bed, grabbing my phone. I liked a few posts on Instagram, smiling at my friends' faces and then a notification from Percy popped up.

Feeling my cheeks heat up, I checked it.

Percy: Hey

Percy: Got your books

Annabeth: Yeah I put them away

Annabeth: they all look so beautiful

Percy: ew no they're textbooks

Annabeth: you and my brothers are all illiterate

Percy: I get your love with regular novels and all

Percy: but textbooks come on

Percy: theyre going to be the death of us

Annabeth: speak for yourself

Annabeth: I might start reading them

Percy: ....I haven't even opened the box

Annabeth: of course you haven't

Annabeth: when are you going to

Percy: 🤷

Percy: the first day of school?

Annabeth: unbelievable

Percy: hey there's plenty of time for that

Annabeth: 3 DAYS JACKSON

Percy: hey hey 3 days is a lot okay

Percy: anyways I have something to tell you

Percy: can i call you

Percy: i'm too tired to type

Annabeth: sure

"Hey."

"Hi. What's up?"

"My ceiling."

"Percy."

A laugh. "Sorry, I had to."

"Mhm. What'd you want to tell me?"

"Remember how I told you about Gabe and how he left?"

"Yeah, you never told me why though."

"Uh, we'll, um, get to that later. But anyways, we're finally getting rid of him!"

Percy sounded like he'd been itching to say that.

"Really?"

"Yeah! My mom's applied for divorce."

A grin broke out over my face. "That's fantastic, Percy! Good for you, and for Sally."

"Yeah, thanks. Mom told me about it yesterday, she spoke to a friend of hers who is a lawyer, and they said they can arrange an immediate divorce under oath."
