Wednesday POV:
"Damn," I say quickly. I don't know why I responded like that, I guess I didn't like Aurora as much as I thought I did. I glance at Enid, who hands me my phone.
"Damn??" she questions, raising an eyebrow.
I shrug and return to reading my book.
KNOCK KNOCK
Just as Enid gets off me, the door opens.
"Right on time," I think to myself as I glance at Enid.
"Alright, now you have to tell me everything from your perspective," Yoko says as she steps into the room.
"Okay, fine."
TIME SKIP – 4:43 PM
Yoko shakes her head as I finish talking.
"Why'd you go to Enid like that in the first place?" she asks, a little annoyed about what I did to Aurora.
"I- I don't know" I say, staring at my lap.
The door opens
We both look up to see Enid walking in, carrying a bag of snacks and bundled up in her oversized puffer jacket.
"Sorry, am I interrupting?" she asks, reaching for the door.
"Nah, you're good," Yoko replies, standing up. "See ya, guys."
She leaves, and now it's just me and Enid.
"I brought you some snacks," she says, gesturing toward the bag.
"Thank you. You didn't have to do that."
"It's fine, I wanted to... Did you wanna watch a movie with me, maybe?" she asks after a pause.
"Who's picking?"
"You, if you want," she replies, walking over to my bed.
"Can we watch it in your bed?" she asks, giving me that look, the same one she gave me earlier, filled with something unspoken, something tender that makes my heart skip a beat.
"Mhm, yeah, sure," I say, getting up from the sofa. I walk to my bed and lay down, pulling the TV (it's mounted to the wall) toward us and opening Netflix.
I'm sitting there, scrolling through options, when I realize Enid's not in the bed. I look around but don't see her.
"Enid?" I call out. No answer.
"Enid, where are you?" I say louder.
Still nothing. I get up to check the bathroom. Just as I reach the door, it swings open and I stumble forward.
Enid's POV:
I open the bathroom door to check what Wednesday wanted, but she's right outside the door and nearly falls into me. Now we're inches apart. I can feel her breath on my skin.
"I was just checking to see if you were alright," she whispers.
She starts to pull away, but I gently grab her arm. I hold her there for a moment, just looking at her, and she looks back. It's not just a glance. There's weight in it. Something unspoken, something intense.
She doesn't move, and neither do I. It's like that moment says everything we're too afraid to put into words.
When she finally turns away, there's the smallest smile on her face, and that's when I notice something.
"OMG YOU HAVE DIMPLES!" I shout, momentarily forgetting how close we are.
Her face drops.
"No, no, I'm sorry! Please show me, they're so cute," I say, cupping her face.
She turns away. "No. I just want to watch the movie," she mumbles, walking over to her bed.
I follow her and lay down beside her as she starts the movie, one she picked out. The title screen reads Home.
Without a word, she puts her arm around me. She doesn't look at me, but it makes me smile anyway. I snuggle into her side.
TIME SKIP – Sad part of the movie
Tears stream down my face as I watch one of the characters nearly get crushed. I glance up at Wednesday, her expression is unreadable, calm and collected, but her eyes hold that same quiet intensity I saw earlier in our shared moment. No sadness, just a steady focus, like she's watching something unfold with quiet interest.
I return my gaze to the screen, and a small smile forms when I see the character survived. Relieved, I look back at Wednesday.
She's asleep.
"Damn," I whisper, smiling gently.
I shift closer and nestle into her as I start to drift off.
TIME SKIP – 3:12 AM
I wake up to the feeling of Wednesday shifting beside me.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" she whispers, her voice low and raspy. Oh god, her sleepy voice is unreal. How does she sound this attractive?
"Enid," she says again, her voice gently pulling me back to reality.
"Huh? Sorry, I zoned out. No, you didn't wake me up," I reply.
She leans in, and for a second I think she's going to kiss me, but instead, she tucks her head into the crook of my neck and wraps her arms around my waist.
Just as I'm settling back to sleep, she presses herself closer. There's a softness to her now, almost vulnerable. Her breath is warm against my skin.
She holds me like she doesn't want to let go.
Her hand moves gently across my back, drawing slow, lazy circles against my skin. The sensation is soothing, grounding, she lingers like she has all the time in the world.
She shifts just a little, resting her head on my chest. I gently run my fingers through her, now loose braids, feeling her slowly relax with each stroke. Her breathing begins to slow, the tension in her body melting away.
We lay there in the stillness, her arms around me and mine around her, surrounded by nothing but the soft sounds of the night. The room feels warmer somehow, quieter, safer.
Her eyes drift shut, and soon her soft, even breaths tell me she's fallen asleep.
I press a light kiss to the top of her head, smiling to myself.
KNOCK KNOCK
"Lights out, girls" a teacher's voice calls through the door.
Wednesday stirs slightly but doesn't open her eyes. I pull the blanket a little higher over her shoulder and rest my cheek against her hair, whispering back toward the door, "Yeah yeah."
