Enid's POV:
I slowly open my eyes to see the TV still on in front of me. The events of last night come flooding back, and I turn over, expecting to see Wednesday beside me, but she's not there. I sit up, but a sharp pain shoots through my back. I wince and lie back down, trying to catch my breath. A moment later, I hear the bathroom door open, and there she is, Wednesday, toothbrush still in her mouth.
"You okay?" she mumbles.
"Yeah, just a bit sore," I reply.
She nods and disappears back into the bathroom. I instinctively reach for my lower back to rub the ache away, but something feels wrong. When I glance at my hand, it's stained red. My eyes dart to the couch, where dark blood has started to soak into the cushions.
"Wednesday!" I shout, panic rising in my voice.
She rushes out, startled, and freezes in place as she sees the scene in front of her. "What the hell happened?!" she exclaims, hurrying back into the bathroom.
"I don't know, I just woke up like this!"
She returns with paper towels, but instead of worrying about the mess, she presses them gently against my back.
"Wends, I'm fine. Clean the sofa, it looks expensive."
"You're worth more than any amount of money," she mutters, eyes focused on the bleeding.
My cheeks flush. "Can you move?"
I nod slowly and try to sit up. Pain streaks from my back to my legs, and I wince, struggling to my feet.
"Don't push yourself," she says, sliding an arm around me.
"Let's get to the car."
"I don't want to get the seats dirty."
"I'll put a towel down," she assures me.
With her help, we make our way to the elevator.
Ding
We reach the front of the school. People stare, some ask if we need help, but I brush them off with a tired smile. Once at the car, Wednesday lays a towel on the seat before easing me in.
As she gets behind the wheel, I start to feel light-headed. My vision swims. She begins speeding, running red lights.
"Babe, slow down. I'm okay," I lie. My sight is going, and my limbs feel like they're underwater.
"Are you sure?" she asks, glancing over.
I nod, focusing every bit of energy on staying conscious.
-------------------------------------
We finally reach the hospital. Wednesday helps me out of the car.
"I'm fine, you didn't have to speed."
She doesn't reply, just supports me as we walk. I can't feel my legs anymore. We're almost there.
"Help! Someone help!" she yells as we enter.
My vision is almost gone, but I can see the tears in her eyes.
"Don't cry, Wends. I'll be okay. I promise," I say, giving her my best smile.
She tries to return it, but the tears fall freely as doctors surround me. I'm lifted onto a gurney, and the last thing I see is her face, fading as my vision goes black.
I love you, Wednesday.
Wednesday's POV
I watch Enid's eyes close, and more tears spill from mine. I take a deep breath, forcing myself to stay composed. My hands tremble as I pull a knife from my pocket and storm out to the car.
The engine roars to life, and I'm speeding back to Nevermore, blood still wet on my hands. Her blood.
One name echoes in my mind.
Yoko
I burst through the school gates, ignoring the stares. I sprint up the stairs, the same stairs where she nearly killed Enid. I don't stop until I'm at her dorm.
BANG BANG BANG
The door creaks open. Yoko peers out, brightening at the sight of me, until she sees the blood.
"Oh my God, what hap-"
"You know what happened." I shove her inside and slam the door.
I draw the knife, pressing it to her neck.
"Wednesday, what are you doing?!"
"She could die, Yoko! Enid could die because of you!"
Her face shifts. There's no fear. She looks proud.
Tears prick my eyes.
"And I'd do it again," she whispers.
"I will never like you, Yoko. Can't you deal with that?! I. DON'T. LIKE. YOU."
Her confidence falters.
"You could love me."
"NO! I CAN'T. I DON'T WANT TO. I LOVE ENID, AND NOTHING YOU DO CAN CHANGE THAT."
She scowls and locks eyes with me.
I pull back the knife, and punch her square in the face. She stumbles. I grab her head and slam it into my knee.
She crumples but tries to rise again. I take her down, pinning her with my knees. My hands close around her throat.
She struggles... then stops.
She smiles at me.
One tear slips from her eye.
I squeeze harder, until her eyes flutter closed.
I wait. Then check her pulse.
Alive.
Barely.
I leave the room, shutting the door behind me.
Ring ring
I glance at the caller ID. (Hospital)
I answer.
"Is this Wednesday Addams?"
"Yes. Is Enid okay?"
