Wednesday's POV:

I open my eyes and feel arms around me. I smile, she always hugs me like this. Warm, soft, safe. I turn over, expecting to see Enid, only to freeze when I'm met with Yoko's face instead. My smile disappears in an instant.

Her eyes flutter open and she grins at me, unaware of my disappointment. But then I remember: today, I get to see Enid. My chest flutters, and I can't stop the way my face lights up. Yoko's smile grows wider.

"What are you so happy about?" she asks sleepily, stretching her limbs as she slowly sits up.

"Just happy to see you," I lie, forcing a small smile.

As we get out of bed, she pauses, glancing at me curiously. "Hey... could I borrow some of your clothes?"

I blink, taken off guard by the request. She doesn't explain, and I hesitate for a beat before nodding.

"Fine."

Yoko grins, practically skipping over to my wardrobe. She pulls out a hoodie, my favourite hoodie. The one Enid once stole right off my back, claiming it "smelled like midnight and books and everything that made me smile." I remember that day vividly.

Yoko disappears into the bathroom. When she comes out a few minutes later, she's wearing it. I try not to let my expression falter.

She twirls in front of me. "Well?"

"Yeah... you look good," I say, managing a fake smile.

She beams and sits on the edge of the counter as I finish getting dressed. I pull on a dark jumper and my navy cargos.

"Wow," she whistles, giving me a slow once-over. "You look amazing."

"Thanks, Dracula," I joke, trying to ease the strange tension.

But she doesn't laugh. Instead, she walks toward me, closer than I'm comfortable with. I instinctively take a step back but hit the wall behind me. She places a hand on my cheek, her touch unexpectedly soft... and wrong.

Before I can speak, she leans in and kisses me.

And for a second... I let her.

I don't know who I'm picturing. A blur. A ghost. Someone soft and gold and aching like a memory. Someone who isn't Yoko.

I snap out of it and pull away, startled. Yoko's face is smug.

"You really wanted that, didn't you?" she teases.

I step away, ignoring her. "Let's go."

"Go where?" she asks, that same small smile creeping back onto her face.

"To see Enid."

Her smile falters for a fraction of a second. Just long enough to notice.

We walk in silence to the hospital. Somewhere along the way, Yoko grabs my hand. I look at her, but she just gives me a quick, closed-mouth smile.

At the reception desk, I clear my throat. "I'm here for Enid Sinclair."

The receptionist types away, then smiles. "Room 214."

I nod gratefully and almost run toward the elevators.

When I get to the room, I freeze.

Enid is lying in the hospital bed, so still, so quiet, her body surrounded by machines and tubes. She looks too pale. Too fragile.

I walk over and sit in the chair beside her. "Oh, baby," I whisper, brushing her hair gently off her face.

"I'm gonna grab some food," Yoko says softly from behind me.
