Shadow and Silver sat quietly near the entrance of the cave, it had been a few days since they escaped and they were still on edge. They both sat there in complete silence taking it all in, none of them had really been outside before without having to run away, and now they were free, it was a strange feeling and they liked it.
Suddenly a noise interrupted the silence and they both looked behind them to see Sonic twitching and whimpering as he lay there, Silver stood up and knelt next to Sonic and gently placed a hand on the side of his head in reassurance and Sonic curled up slightly pressing against the hand slightly feeling some form of relief as he slept.
"He keeps having nightmares," Silver said quietly. "And it is disturbing to see him this way."
"He will be fine, Silver." Shadow assured him.
"He got almost all his energy and I'm guessing all his power sucked from his very being." Silver said, looking up at Shadow. "How is he going to be fine?"
"He is stronger than he appears." Shadow replied. "We all are."
Silver sighed and looked back down at Sonic. "I just wish we could have done something sooner," he murmured.
"Me too.." Shadow agreed quietly.

Sonic slowly opened his eyes and looked around, he didn't know how long he had been out but he was sure it had been a while. He stared at the wall of the cave for a moment then slowly he pulled his right arm out from underneath himself and rolled over off his side then carefully tried to push himself to his hands and knees but he only succeeded quarter way up and he collapsed back to the ground, he let out an irritated and pained groan once he landed, and a moment later shifted his position slightly so his face wasn't digging into the dirt.
He paused and slowly looked up from his spot on the ground and looked at the entrance of the cave, noticing it was night he curled up slightly as a small cold breeze drifted in. He closed his eyes once again and lay there quietly as time went by slowly, after a bit he heard footsteps coming closer but he dared not move. He didn't even breathe hoping to just disappear, he listened intently as the sound drew closer and closer till it was right next to him. He stayed very still as it grew silent all he could hear was the sound of quiet breathing but nothing more, slowly he opened his eyes and looked to see Shadow sitting a few feet away.
"Sh-Sha-dow.." Sonic whispered trying not to strain too much.
Shadow looked up and turned his gaze to Sonic who lay on his belly for the most part and stared up at him.
"Sonic.." Shadow replied quietly.
Sonic looked like he wanted to say something but couldn't gather enough energy to do so, and it seemed to sadden him.
"Don't worry Sonic, you will recover soon." Shadow assured him.
Sonic looked at Shadow and managed a small smile.
They sat there for a little while in silence till Silver entered the cave.
"Sorry it took so long." Silver apologized, walking towards them.
Sonic watched Silver come closer and he noticed he was carrying wood, curious he watched closely as Silver set the wood down and started piling it up. Shadow then stood up and got some rocks to put around the wood, when they finished and sat down Shadow reached a hand towards the wood and shot a small fiery blast from his hand and the wood was set aflame. Sonic smiled as he stared at the fire that wavered slightly in the faint wind sending some sparks into the air, he watched the sparks fly up a bit till they disappeared.
"So you're awake." Silver smiled, looking at Sonic.
Sonic turned his gaze to Silver and nodded very slightly.
Silver walked over to Sonic and helped him closer to the fire, Sonic smiled and curled up slightly as he slowly drifted back towards sleep. Silver then sat down next to the fire and stared at the flames.
"We soon have to leave." Silver said his voice tinted with worry. "I spotted robots not far from here searching."
"Yes, they are getting closer to finding us." Shadow nodded. "I think it best to leave tomorrow."
"I agree." Silver admitted, looking at Shadow. "But Sonic still can't really move around much."
"Then we will have to carry him." Shadow sighed. "We don't really have a choice, we need to leave as soon as possible."
"Yeah, it isn't safe here." Silver agreed.
