A helpless brothers predicament

Shadow decided to take Sonic for a quick run so he wouldn't destroy Tails house, Sonic was purposely keeping from going full speed so Shadow could keep up easier, Shadow skated right behind Sonic on his air shoes he was keeping an eye out for anything suspicious as they went through the town in a flash, but something seemed to be off about Sonic he was starting to lose speed and soon he was matching the same speed as Shadow.

"Is there something wrong?" Shadow asked, looking to the left where Sonic was running right beside him.

"No," Sonic answered. "At least I don't think.."

Suddenly Sonic stopped and tumbled to the ground. Shadow noticed this and quickly turned around and skated over to Sonic who was pushing himself up to his hands and knees.

"What happened?" Shadow asked.

"I.. don't know.." Sonic said, looking up at Shadow.
Shadow then noticed they were out in the open and quickly pulled Sonic into a nearby bush.

"Shadow.. what did you-" Sonic started, moving to sit up.

"Shh.." Shadow hushed him.

"What?" Sonic asked in a whisper, looking at his older brother.

"Someone is coming." Shadow whispered, peaking out of the bush a bit.

Sonic did the same and spotted a small group of people walking down the street talking and laughing.

They both pinned their ears and ducked back into the bush not wanting to get caught.

When the group left they both stood up making sure no one else was around.

"We should get back." Shadow said, still surveying their surroundings.

Sonic nodded and they both got ready to run again but Sonic zipped forward seemingly uncontrollable and he crashed into a tree, Shadow hurried over to Sonic who lay on the ground dizzily looking up at the tree.

Shadow looked down at his brother who lay there in a daze, holding in a laugh he held out a hand and helped him back up. Sonic once on his feet almost fell backward, putting a hand on his head he looked at Shadow who was holding his free arm keeping him from falling again.

"Are you sure everything is fine?" Shadow asked.

"Yeah.. I guess I'm more out of practice than I thought.." Sonic answered, trying to gain control of his dizziness.

"Well let's get back before anyone sees us." Shadow said, looking around.

"Alright.." Sonic agreed, moving out of Shadow's grip acting like he was no longer dizzy.

With that they zipped off again but Sonic was behind Shadow a little ways and seemed to be slowing again, Shadow looked behind him just in time to see Sonic gain speed a bit too fast causing him to lose balance and he again hit something this time a light post.
Sonic slowly sat up seeing stars, he put his hand on his head again and moaned slightly from the pain.

"Alright that's enough." Shadow huffed, picking Sonic up and skating off in a flash.

Sonic knew he was irritated and it made him a bit more uneasy, though he appreciated the help not really wanting to go through the embarrassment of crashing again. A few minutes later they made it back and Shadow set Sonic down, Sonic by now recovered from the dizziness followed Shadow inside the house, they looked around and found Tails huddled in one of the chairs shivering.

"Tails?" Sonic asked, looking at the curled up yellow fox.

Tails almost jumped and slowly he turned to look at them, not wanting to alarm them he got up and rubbed his eyes before turning to look at them fully.

"Are you ok?" Sonic asked, looking at the large cut on Tails arm.

Tails looked down at his arm and quickly put a hand over it to hide it. "Yeah, I'm fine.." he answered.

"What happened?" Sonic pressed.

"Um.. I just cut myself while I was working.." Tails admitted hesitantly.

"Oh.." Sonic said quietly, looking down.

"It's.. only a cut.. not that big of a deal.." Tails said, walking to the bathroom to clean it up. "I will be right back."

Sonic turned to look at Shadow after Tails left. "I don't think that was the reason.. at least not the full reason."

Shadow nodded in agreement.
