A helpless brothers predicament

Figuring it out

Sonic sat quietly on the couch. It had been a few days since they got here and he was a bit better than before but he still couldn't walk and that irritated him. Frustrated, he dug his face into the pillow and groaned slightly.

His ears pinned against his head and a faint black mist fluttered around him for a moment before someone walked into the room he then quickly hid his frustration and looked to see who it was.

"Sonic?"

Sonic noticed it was Silver's voice, he perked up slightly and watched as Silver came into view.

"Hello Sonic." Silver greeted, seeing him laying awake on the couch.

"H-hi.." Sonic replied quietly.

"Are you alright?" Silver asked, concerned.

Sonic looked away for a moment not really wanting to answer that.

"I'm sorry this had to happen to you." Silver apologized, with a sorrowful expression.

Sonic looked at him for a minute wanting to say something but someone else hurried into the room. They both looked over to see Tails quickly skidding to a stop.

"I think I figured it out." Tails said, looking at Silver then Sonic. "But I need to test it before we actually try it out."

Sonic flinched at that word, he didn't really know what he was talking about but he didn't much care either. suddenly he felt a prick from his head and he winced slightly from it, he then looked over to see Tails holding one of his quills, he pinned his ears not really understanding why the fox did that.

"Sorry," Tails apologized. "I need to get this just right."

Sonic looked back at Silver who was just standing there watching, Silver looked at Sonic and shrugged.
Tails then hurried off, quill in hand.

Sonic sighed and buried his face back into the pillow, once again falling to sleep.

Silver stared at Sonic for a minute then looked to see the fox disappear around the corner.

Shadow stood waiting for the fox to return, he said he needed to get something he wasn't sure what he was getting but it sounded important.

"Got it." Tails said, running into the room.

Shadow watched as Tails ran by with a blue quill in his hand, he paused, wasn't that Sonic's quill? Tails quickly set the quill down and hurried to his computer.

"Did you figure it out?" Shadow asked, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Yeah.. I just need to do a quick test before we can do anything else." Tails said with a nod.

Shadow looked at the quill. 'Strange Eggman would have just done it, he really didn't care what happened to any of us.' Shadow thought to himself. 'Just wonder why this fox isn't, does he care? Or is he just using us?'

Tails looked over at Shadow for a moment then looked at the machine, he then took the quill and attached it to the machine.

"I just hope this works.." Tails said, backing up a bit and reaching out to touch a button.

'Hopefully..' Shadow thought, trying not to groan in frustration.

Tails looked at the computer, the energy bars on the screen were slowly going up, making sure it was steady. He looked at the quill that was starting to give off a faint glow.

Shadow stared at it for a second then looked at Tails who was typing on the keyboard and making sure everything was going alright, Tails looked back at the quill that was glowing a lighter blue as it gave off some sort of electric charge.

Tails waited for a moment longer before suddenly turning it off, he hurried over to the quill that was still giving off a bit of electricity, quickly he took it off the machine and set it in a small glass containment box and hurried to his computer again, he then pushed a few buttons and looked at the results, after a moment he froze staring at the computer.

"What's wrong?" Shadow asked, staring at the fox.
Tails almost jumped at the sudden sound, slowly he turned to look at Shadow then looked at the quill.

"It.. it.." Tails stuttered in shock, looking back at Shadow. "Worked."

Shadow froze then slowly looked to the side. 'It worked? Did that mean Sonic could finally get back to normal?'

"But we will have to wait at least a day and make sure nothing bad happens." Tails said, walking over to the quill. "It still might not be stable, or very safe so I will give it overnight just to make sure."

Shadow looked at Tails confused. 'Why would he do that? It's definitely not something Eggman would do' he shook his head and watched as Tails observed the quill to make sure that nothing was off about it.

"You know this is very strange, it absorbs the energy differently than I thought, but it still works." Tails said, staring at the electric charge that came off the quill.

"He is different from other people.. all of us are." Silver answered walking up to them.

"Yeah.. I understand." Tails nodded, looking over at them.

"So is it ready?" Silver asked, changing the subject.

"Mostly, we just have to wait for the final results." Tails answered.

"Alright," Silver nodded. "I just hope it will help him get back to normal."

"Well there is a chance of side effects." Tails stated. "But till the final results I won't know for sure."

They both looked at Tails, not very reassured.

"Well um.. I think I better go make.. um.. dinner." Tails said nervously.

With that Tails went off to the kitchen.

Shadow and Silver watched him go then slowly looked at each other.

"Side effects?" Silver asked worriedly.

"Don't worry, we won't let him try it out on Sonic till he is very sure there isn't anything going to go wrong." Shadow growled.

Silver nodded in agreement and they both walked out of the room.
