The Ride Along

"Dockery?" Grey raises an eyebrow, seeing Brooke in his office.

"hi, sir" Brooke replies.

"what do you need?" Grey asks.

"I'm just sitting here" Brooke answers, sheepishly.

"what did you do?" Grey raises an eyebrow.

"n-nothing illegal" Brooke murmurs.

"do I want to know?" Grey asks.

"no" Brooke responds.

"okay, let's go to roll call" Grey sighs.

"sounds good" Brooke answers, standing up and following Grey to roll call. 

Grey chooses to ignore how Brooke is visibly limping.

Brooke sits down next to Smitty, and since Grey starts roll call, Tim can't approach her.

"All right, grab your seats. A special day here at Mid-Wilshire. In fact, we're gonna start off by playing a game I like to call "What is a patrol officer's least favorite assignment?" Officer Lopez, why don't you get us started." Grey starts.

"Easy. Guarding a dead body." Angela answers.

"Solid one. Officer Bradford?" Grey calls on Tim, who is trying to get Brooke to look at him.

"Canvassing in the rain." Tim says, distracted.

"Dockery" Grey asks.

"IA checkups" Brooke replies. "it's the most demeaning thing in the world"

"Without a doubt. And yet, for me, the absolute worst is the VIP ride along." Grey announces making everyone groan.

"Why? That sounds like fun." Nolan asks.

"Officer Dockery, would you like to inform your Boot why the ride along tops my list?" Grey asks.

"because if your VIP so much as gets a scratch, you're fucked, so you gotta take the lowest of low-risk calls, it's the most boring day" Brooke replies.

"Plus, you're trapped in a car all day with an entitled prima donna coated in body spray." Tim adds, hoping Brooke will just look at him but she's doing a good job looking anywhere but at him.

"Officer Nolan, you want to take a guess why we're playing this game?" Grey asks.

"Because you're giving me the VIP ride along?" Nolan laughs.

"No." Grey lies.

"Really?" Nolan perks up.

"No. You absolutely got the ride along. He's waiting in the Captain's office for you now." Grey replies.

"great, let's go" Brooke stands up. 

"already?" Nolan asks.

"yup, let's go, come on" Brooke drags Nolan out of the roll call room.

"does Officer Dockery like ride alongs?" Lucy inquires.

"nope" Angela replies, as everyone watches them scurry off.

"okay, what was that about?" Nolan asks.

"nothing" Brooke replies.

"okay, I'm not an idiot" Nolan says.

"I slept with Tim last night and I woke up and I left because I'm like 90% sure to him it was just a mistake so I left before we could talk" Brooke blurts out.

"you did what?" Nolan gapes but Brooke is already knocking on the Captain's office door.

"come in" Anderson calls and the two enter.
