Chapter 12 : For Now
You adjusted your glasses and pulled your hair back into a neat bun, signaling that it was time to address the day's earlier events.
In one hand, you held a long ruler authoritatively.
Before you, Zoro and Luffy knelt on the living room floor, each balancing heavy stacks of books on their knees, their arms stretched upward in a pose that suggested both penitence and discomfort.
Your expression was stern and unyielding as you surveyed the boys, the fierce look accentuated by a slight adjustment of your glasses.
Dinner had been cleared away with the help of all the children, transitioning the evening from a familial gathering to a more disciplinary tone.
Now was the moment to address the consequences of Zoro's and Luffy's actions earlier that day.
Mihawk was observing from his armchair, donned in his reading glasses which, to your slight distraction, added an intellectual allure to his usual stern demeanor.
It ALMOST made you drool.
He seemed almost relaxed as he watched the boys endure their temporary punishment, a stark contrast to the seriousness of the discussion at hand.
Meanwhile, Perona was blissfully unaware of the gravity in the room as she played with the kitten, her giggles filling the space with a light-heartedness that belied the tension between the rest of you.
As you stood there, overseeing the boys' temporary punishment, you began to converse with Mihawk about what the appropriate official response should be for their skipping classes.
This needed to be educational yet fair, ensuring the boys understood the gravity of their decisions without feeling unduly harsh.
You peered over your glasses and addressed Mihawk with a mix of frustration and determination.
"I've decided on Luffy's punishment, but I'm at a loss with Zoro. What does he like, Hawk-chan?" you queried, turning towards him expectantly.
Mihawk, his face cupped in one hand, appeared weary yet resigned.
"I will support whatever you decide is appropriate, Miss Y/N," he replied with a weary sigh.
Your expression hardened, and you pointed the ruler directly at him, emphasizing your point.
"Hawk-chan, the essence of effective punishment is to understand and perhaps temporarily withhold what the person values most! I hardly know Zoro well enough to determine that. You need to assist me here, you are his father," you insisted, your voice carrying a mix of exasperation and urgency.
Mihawk closed his eyes, a bead of sweat trickling down his forehead, reflecting his discomfort with the conversation.
He had hoped to quickly resolve this matter, but your insistence on a thorough discussion made him realize the necessity of a deeper understanding.
"He likes... I'm not sure," he confessed, turning away slightly, embarrassed by his lack of insight despite it being nearly two weeks since Zoro had come under his care.
You sighed deeply, visibly frustrated by his lack of input, your expression growing even more stern.
Fast forward a minute, and the scene had dramatically shifted.
Mihawk now found himself kneeling beside Luffy and Zoro, a stack of heavy books pressing down on his knees.
Unlike the boys, who were visibly struggling with the weight, Mihawk only displayed a single bead of sweat on his forehead, showcasing his strength but also his uncharacteristic participation in the punishment.
