Chapter 20 : Welcome
Boa gave you a dazzling smile that didn't reach her eyes, her voice sugary sweet as she spoke.
"You know, I have to say, you're handling things here better than I expected. I guess some people do have a knack for domestic... tasks, even if they lack other skills."
You smiled, though your eyes narrowed slightly.
"Why, thank you, Boa," you replied with equal sweetness.
"And it's truly impressive how you've managed to find time to visit despite your busy schedule. It must be quite the challenge, balancing so many... superficial demands."
Boa's lips twitched, and her smile became a little tighter.
"Yes, well, I do believe that being at the top requires a certain... flair. It's not something everyone can handle, especially those who are more used to blending into the background. But it's sweet that you're doing your best to fit in here."
You gave a soft chuckle, your eyes glinting with amusement.
"Oh, I don't mind blending in when I need to," you said lightly.
"After all, it's the ones who blend in who can make a real difference without causing a scene. But I suppose being the center of attention has its own... burdens, doesn't it?"
Boa's eyes sharpened, her smile widening as she leaned forward.
"Burdens? Well, I wouldn't know," she said, her tone dripping with condescension.
"I thrive in the spotlight. It's where I belong, and I suppose some people are just... destined for that kind of life. It's something you either have, or you don't. And obviously, you do not."
You crossed your arms, giving her a knowing smile.
"Absolutely. And it's wonderful how you've managed to keep yourself relevant for so long, especially in such a cutthroat industry," you said, your voice just as sweet.
"It must take a lot of effort to maintain that kind of image, constantly working to keep people's attention."
Boa's eyes flashed briefly with irritation, though she quickly masked it, her smile turning icy.
"It does take effort, yes," she replied, her gaze fixed on you.
"But it also takes talent. Natural talent. Not everyone can just stumble their way into success, after all. It takes real determination—something I'm sure you can appreciate, considering your... role here."
You felt a smile spread across your face, one that almost mirrored hers.
"Oh, absolutely," you said, leaning back in your chair.
"I think we all have our own ways of contributing. Whether it's running a household, keeping things together, or, you know... looking pretty in magazines. We all do what we can."
Boa's expression tightened for just a moment, her eyes narrowing at your words. She let out a laugh, though it lacked warmth.
"And I do it well," she said, her tone sharp.
"But I must say, it's... admirable that you've decided to step up and take on this role. Not everyone could handle being in someone else's shadow with such... grace."
You tilted your head slightly, as if considering her words.
"Why, thank you, Boa," you said, your voice dripping with false sincerity.
"I suppose it's just one of my strengths—making things work no matter the circumstances. And I'm sure you understand, as someone who's always... had everything handed to her."
