Chapter 17 : Foolishness

The mall was bustling with activity.

The sounds of children laughing, people chatting, and the occasional announcement from a store's loudspeaker filled the air.

You and Makino strolled side by side, bags in hand, both enjoying the vibrant energy of the place.

You glanced at your friend, her gentle smile as she eyed some window displays.

"It's nice to be out like this," Makino said, her voice warm and serene, as always.

"Especially after everything that's happened."

You sighed, nodding in agreement.

"Yeah, I've needed a break," you replied.

"Things have been... a bit crazy lately."

Makino gave you a curious look, her brow furrowed slightly.

"How's it been at Mihawk's place?" she asked, her voice full of genuine interest.

You chuckled, a mix of amusement and exasperation.

"It's been... well, an adventure." You began to fill her in on everything—about Luffy's boundless energy, Perona's insistence on being the princess, Zoro getting lost almost daily, and Mihawk, who despite his stoic demeanor, had this subtle yet unmistakable warmth for all of you.

Makino listened intently, her eyes twinkling with amusement as she giggled softly at the anecdotes.

"It sounds like you're forming quite the family there," she said, her smile gentle.

"I'm glad you have that. It sounds chaotic but... lovely."

You felt a warmth bloom in your chest at her words.

"It is. I didn't think it would be like this. But it's... nice. Even with all the chaos," you said, your smile turning more tender.

Makino squeezed your arm affectionately.

"It's good to see you happy," she said. You nodded, giving her a grateful smile.

The two of you continued walking, stopping to look at a few displays along the way, until something caught your eye—a shop selling the latest phones.

You paused, pulling Makino along as you stepped closer to look at the models displayed in the window.

"Makino, wait. I just remembered," you said, a hint of excitement in your voice.

"I've been meaning to get a phone for Zoro. It's impossible to find him when he gets lost."

You rolled your eyes playfully, and Makino laughed.

"A phone would be perfect for him. Let's get one!" she said, nodding in agreement.

The two of you entered the store, greeted by a neatly arranged display of shiny phones in different colors and sizes.

You moved towards the counter, glancing at the models available, Makino standing by your side.

You were just about to ask the salesperson for assistance when you heard a familiar voice.

"What a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect to see you here."

You turned towards the voice, your eyes widening as they met a familiar face—Ben Beckman. He stood a few feet away, holding a sleek-looking phone in his hand, a small grin playing on his lips. His eyes held that signature mix of amusement and calm.
