Chapter 4 : Excellent
At the company's serene garden, Shanks and Benn found themselves by the tranquil centerpiece, a koi pond, engaging in their respective activities.
The garden, a quiet retreat amidst the hustle of corporate life, was momentarily disturbed by their presence.
Benn, who was near the pond's edge, was in the midst of a conversation with you over the phone when Shanks, in a playful yet misjudged attempt, tried to snatch his phone back.
This sudden action led to an unexpected mishap, causing both men to lose their balance and tumble into the water below.
The serene atmosphere of the garden was briefly replaced by the sound of splashing and the subsequent frustration that ensued.
Regaining his footing within the pond, Benn was quick to express his irritation, standing up to confront Shanks about the chaotic turn of events.
"NOT ONLY DID YOU MAKE ME DROP YOUR PHONE! BUT MINE GOT WET FROM THE FALL AS WELL!" he scolded, his annoyance palpable.
The incident, a mix of comedic timing and unintended consequences, momentarily disrupted the calm of the garden, reflecting the often unpredictable nature of their friendship and interactions.
Shanks, dripping wet and trying to suppress a grin, realized the gravity of the situation as Benn's voice echoed across the serene setting, disrupting the peaceful ambiance of the garden.
"Ah, Benn, I... I didn't mean for that to happen," he stammered, his usual carefree demeanor momentarily faltering under the weight of Benn's scolding.
The sight of both their phones, possibly damaged by the unexpected dip, added a layer of seriousness to his usually light-hearted antics.
Attempting to salvage the situation, Shanks reached out, offering a hand to help Benn out of the pond.
"Let's get out of here and see if the phones are alright," he suggested, hoping to shift focus from the mishap to resolving its consequences.
Once out of the water, the two men made their way back to the office building, leaving a trail of water in their wake.
The office staff couldn't help but stare, a mixture of amusement and disbelief on their faces as the duo passed by, creating a mild spectacle.
Reaching Shanks' office, they immediately went about trying to save their soaked devices.
Shanks grabbed a bag of rice from the pantry — a trick he had learned from past misadventures — and they both buried their phones in it, hoping to draw out the moisture.
As they set the phones aside, Shanks turned to Benn, a sincere look of apology on his face.
"I'm really sorry, Benn. I'll replace your phone if it's ruined," he offered, understanding the potential inconvenience he had caused.
Benn, having cooled off a bit, waved him off. "Let's just wait and see. No use fretting over it now," he conceded, though he couldn't help but add, "But really, Shanks, you've got to be more careful! I was in the middle of telling Y/N what to expect when she meets-."
"She'll be fine! What's the worst that could happen?"
Benn looked at Shanks and sighed, "You better pray it'll be fine."
