Chapter 15 : Caught
"I'm sorry if they are unseemly," you said, your voice gentle.
The apology was more for his discomfort than yours, a way to bridge the gap that had formed between you in those few moments.
Slowly, you rose to your feet, your body protesting slightly at the movement. You turned to Luffy, who was still standing by, his eyes wide with concern.
"Luffy, could you grab me and Perona a towel, please?" you asked, your tone filled with a warmth that helped ease the tension.
Luffy nodded eagerly, his face lighting up with determination as he spun around and dashed back into the house, his feet pounding against the floor.
He was always so eager to help, so willing to do whatever it took to make things right.
Next, you turned to Zoro, who was still standing with his hands firmly over his eyes, his cheeks tinged pink. A smile tugged at your lips as you looked at him.
"I'm sorry, Zoro," you said, your voice filled with amusement.
"But do you think you could help me clean up the broken glass at the balcony?"
Zoro gave a curt nod, still keeping his eyes tightly shut as he mumbled something about "no warning at all" under his breath.
Despite his grumbling, he obediently turned and headed towards the shattered glass, his movements careful, though his eyes remained averted.
Luffy returned shortly, his face flushed from rushing. He held two towels, handing one to you first, his eyes darting away to avoid staring, then the other to Mihawk for Perona.
You smiled at Luffy, taking the towel gratefully and wrapping it around your shoulders.
The soft fabric brought a warmth that helped soothe your shivering skin.
Slowly, you approached Mihawk, who still held Perona in his arms, her small body trembling slightly, her face hidden against his chest.
You could see how tightly she clung to him, her fingers fisted into his shirt as if she was scared to let go.
"She needs a warm shower," you said softly, your eyes meeting Mihawk's, a hint of warmth in your voice.
"Let me handle her."
Mihawk's gaze lingered on Perona, a hesitation in his eyes that spoke of his own internal struggle. Finally, he nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line as he looked back at you.
He turned and began to walk towards the house, his movements slow and deliberate, his hold on Perona still gentle.
You followed closely behind, Luffy at your side, his eyes flicking between you and Mihawk. As you approached the door, you looked at Luffy with a small smile.
"Luffy, can you help me grab some pajamas from my room and Perona's?" you asked, your voice soft.
Luffy's face lit up, the worry that had been clouding his features lifting slightly.
"You got it, Onee-chan!" he said, his voice filled with determination.
He turned and ran off, his footsteps echoing through the hallway as he hurried to complete his task.
Mihawk continued forward, bringing Perona to the ground-level bathroom. He pushed the door open, stepping inside, his eyes still on the little girl in his arms.
You followed him in, extending your hands towards him, waiting for him to hand her over.
Mihawk raised an eyebrow, his gaze flicking between you and Perona.
