Chapter 16 : Wrong
The sun was bright in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over the entire house as Saturday morning arrived. Today was the day—the day the family had decided to go to the beach.
It had been the only topic of conversation since that heartfelt moment in the living room earlier in the week. Luffy had been buzzing with excitement, talking nonstop about all the things he was going to do—eat tons of snacks, swim in the ocean, find seashells, and build the biggest sandcastle with Perona.
Mihawk on the other hand had decided to purchase a zombie stuffed bear as an apology for being harsh to Perona and she was thrilled by it.
She had named it Kumashi.
The entire house seemed to carry a different energy that morning. The usual lazy weekend atmosphere had been replaced with a buzzing excitement, an eagerness that hung in the air. The sound of footsteps echoed through the hallways as everyone moved around, gathering their things.
Luffy's voice could be heard loudly from the kitchen, talking about what snacks they should take, his enthusiasm filling the house with life.
Perona, who had been a little apprehensive at first, now wore an expression of anticipation. She clutched her stuffed bear, Kumashi, as she peeked into the living room to watch Luffy pack snacks into a large bag, her lips tugging up into a small smile.
The promise of making a special memory together had brought her a sense of hope she hadn't felt in a long time, and she wanted to believe in it.
Mihawk was in the entryway, adjusting his coat—though he knew it would soon be shed once they reached the warm sands.
His eyes scanned over the chaos unfolding in the house, his golden gaze softening at the sight of Luffy hopping from one foot to the other, almost vibrating with excitement, and Perona trailing behind him, her steps more measured but her excitement no less real.
You walked in, carrying a large beach bag packed with towels, sunscreen, and everything else you thought they might need for the day.
You paused for a moment, watching the scene before you, your heart swelling at the sight of them all—so different, yet somehow coming together as a family.
"Alright, everyone, listen up!" you called out, your voice carrying over the noise, commanding everyone's attention.
Luffy stopped his bouncing, turning to look at you with wide, eager eyes, while Perona looked up, her fingers still gripping Kumashi. Zoro, who had been leaning against the doorframe, raised an eyebrow, giving you a curious glance.
"We've got everything we need?" you asked, looking around at everyone.
"Towels, sunscreen, snacks?"
"Snacks are ready!" Luffy announced, holding up the bag as if it were a trophy. His grin was wide, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I packed extra, just in case!"
You chuckled, nodding approvingly. "Good job, Luffy."
You then turned to Zoro. "What about the umbrella and the chairs?"
Zoro gave a lazy nod, gesturing to the corner of the room where the folded-up beach chairs and umbrella were leaning against the wall.
"All set," he said, though the slight smirk on his lips showed that even he was looking forward to the trip, despite his usual stoic demeanor.
Finally, your gaze landed on Mihawk, who was watching everything quietly, his expression unreadable but his eyes softer than usual.
"Are we ready, then?" you asked, giving him a smile.
