Chapter Nine: Bree

BAM!

I flinched as Adam set a firework off right next to me.

"Okay," I declared, "We are not having a repeat of last year. No burning down the island. No setting off illegal fireworks. No Roman Candle wars."
"Ooh! ROMAN CANDLE WAR!!!!" Adam exclaimed as a bunch of the students cheered. Unbelievable.
I was about a month since I had met Fern, Garrett, and Heather, and I wanted to go back home.
However, Garrett had texted me saying, "You can keep a secret, right?" and a video of Tasha demanding a divorce. Now, I don't know whether I have a home or not.

I sped to the student dorms after pondering to do a DIY mani-pedi with some of the other girls. We experimented making firework patterns while one of the girls, Sasha, played Katy Perry's "Firework" over and over again. I never thought I would get sick of Katy Perry. But then I wished I could keep the song looping because another student, Lydia, changed the song to Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA." Ever since "Wrecking Ball," I haven't been able to listen to Miley without cringing.

{A/N: I am apologizing right now to all Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus fans. I have nothing against Firework or Party in the USA}

"Well, I'm done," I declared. I sped out of the quarters and into the commons area.
"Hey Chase!" I greeted.
"Has this day been scarring for you?" Chase asked.
"I'm going to have to wear gloves and socks for the rest of the summer because my student done nails are hideous, and I had to listen to Miley Cyrus," I answered, "So, yes."
"You have no idea. Look!" Chase groaned, pulling up his shirt. There was a huge, red welt where his belly button should have been.
"Okay. Talk about rough day," I commented.
"I'm used to it," Chase replied. Suddenly, his phone went off.
"Fern: 'Would you like to see an awesome fireworks show with us tonight at nine?🎆 And would you like to be my boyfriend?👫 Whoops. I meant husband.💍' Okay creepy."
"Now you know how Bob makes me feel," I remarked, "And it's 8:00! We need to get your ring and get the the show by nine!" I dragged him into the hydroloup and we zoomed off to the mainland.

➖An Hour Later➖

"So I sped you all the way to a jewelry store in Norway just for you to say that you're too young for this!?!?" I scolded Chase as we arrived at The Mission Creek (there actually is a creek) and saw Fern and Garrett.
"Hey," Chase called.
"Sup," Fern and Garrett replied in unison.
"Where's Heather?" I asked.
"Fireworks spook her so she didn't come," Fern explained, "Baby."
"On that same note," Garrett continued, "Where are Adam and Leo?"
"Doing their own show at the island," I replied, "And Chase and I didn't want to be victims of the island burning down. Again."
With that, Chase and I sat down and the show started.
"I never knew how beautiful fireworks were," I muttered.
"Are you kidding?" Fern whispered back to me, "Look in the mirror. We're all fireworks going off in an array of colors. That's what makes us us."
I couldn't help but smile.
