"Scent? And why could Duncan stay with us, and you couldn't?" I asked

"Scent? And why could Duncan stay with us, and you couldn't?" I asked.

"We all left not knowing when we would see each other again," Vince said. "Not knowing if you would be a Lycan or a wolf we hoped that you were the safest with Doris."

"The only thing he left behind was a phone number that I could call when in need. Once they left, I moved and told everyone that I was a widow. I missed Vince terribly but losing him would have been way worse. Because I'm human being away from him wasn't that awful, I missed him but with the years that passed I got used to the pain. Seeing you grow up helped too. And then you shifted in your wolf, 5 months before your 6th birthday. And your scent was overwhelming. Even I, as a human could scent it," Mom said.

"What was my scent?" I asked.

"Spring."

"That's when I called that number. Fiona is a witch and arrived the next day."

"A witch?" I asked.

"Fiona locked your wolf away. And we started with the insulin and the herbal tea to hide your scent and all your advantage. Because even with your wolf locked away you were still stronger, faster and so on. Fiona made sure to make you as human as possible, without harming your Lycan."

"I found my mate in December 2001, she was an omega, very shy and scared to be rejected. After four months she left me, leaving behind a note to not look for her. 10 months after she left, I felt our bond break. I was depressed for a long time. When Fiona called us early 2006 and told us what happened and that you kept attracting wolves, like you found Helen, I left the pack and joined Doris and you. Together we got Helen back on her feet. You were always singing and dancing. Life was good, safe, and I finally found something to live for again," Duncan said.

"I'm sorry about your mate. Why did you faked your death? Why did you stay for only 6 years?" I asked.

"I resemble my father very much and they must have hoped that I was a Lycan, one day they haunted me through the city. I was able to warn Fiona and we faked my death 2 days later. Her brother was one of the paramedics that arrived at the accident."

"You ran under a bus on purpose?" Shawn gasped.

Duncan chuckled, "I did. It wasn't fun. But I would have done everything to keep them away from you."

"Poor bus driver," I said.

One of the man in the room laughed, "it was fun and I didn't hit him that hard," he smirked at Duncan who growled at him.

"What about the debts?"

"They never existed, or not like I said," mom said and looked down ashamed.

"Why?" I asked.

"For precautions we move around a lot, and I couldn't keep my job, bills piled up and I tried to gamble. Like always I won at first but then I started to lose a lot. By the time you were 13, or 14 I was so deep in it, that I told you that I was off to work but in reality, I was in the casino trying to win some money to buy us food."
