I'm back at the Ghost pack and Vince seems to be happy seeing me back

I'm back at the Ghost pack and Vince seems to be happy seeing me back. Duncan on the other hand is looking at me confused. I can't blame him for that. I told him I was leaving and never coming back.

I felt used by Vince when he gave me his Alpha command to compel Nell. It's for things like that that I never got used to living in a large group. Especially a wolf pack where the Alpha's will is law. Vince was never like that but since Doris arrived, he was more on edge. Like he was more worried when his family was with him than when they weren't with him.

Vince has always been a good Alpha, he listened to people, asked for their opinion. He gave people a new chance. But when he ordered me to compel his own daughter, take her memories about Duncan away, something shifted in the Ghost pack. Loyal allies and family changed how they felt about following Vince in protecting his pup at all costs.

I understand how it must have been for him when his whole family was hunted down. Used and killed for their blood. But taking away her memories about Duncan—, taking away knowing that she's a Lycan, taking away her feelings for a whole pack— I can't see past that but I'm back. To do what? To help her? To protect her? Find some people that want to help her too? I promised Julia, my little mate. It's still strange to say that I have a mate. I never thought that I would find my mate. My one and only soulmate. But she's perfect for me.

"Back already? I hadn't expected you back for a couple more weeks." Vince asked. And he's right. Living in a pack, not my thing. He's used to it that I leave for a couple of weeks, sometimes even months. But I come always back.

"At least for a while. I found my mate—," I said and chuckled.

Vince hums, "it's good to see you happy. A bit strange though. Where's your mate?"

"In college, I helped her settle in, but I couldn't stay there long, too many triggers, scents." It a half lie, with my mate besides me I can cope with it.

"Feel free to visit her once and awhile. Mates are important," he said and wrapped his arm around Doris.

"Are you eating with us tonight?" Doris asked me with a smile on her face.

I nodded, "I'd love too. I'm going to freshen up first."

"Good, dinner will be ready in 45 minutes."

I nod at her and walk towards my room and pass by Nell's room. Her door is open and she's writing in her notebook. Nothing has changed.

"Hey Nell," I say.

She looks up, "John. Hi, how are you?"

"Good. How are you?"

She narrows her eyes at me and sniffs the air. With a frown she lays her notebook down and walked towards me, "you smell like rain."

"It was raining when I was travelling here." She hums but doesn't seem to believe me. "What?" I asked her.

"Nothing, the scent just reminds me of something, but I don't know about what. It's here," she taps her head, "but it doesn't comes out."
