The hot California sun beat down on Katerina's back as she and Alex walked back towards the hangar with both of their helmets under their arms. Both mentally preparing themselves for a long debrief from their admiral.

Even though she was exhausted and sweaty, she had a smile on her face as she walked down the hallways, when she was near planes or doing the things she loved most nothing else mattered.

"Oh, I wish I could have seen the look on Payrate's face when you pulled that move!" Her best friend Alex "Mickey" Marshall said as they continued down the long hallways of the base they were currently stationed at. He was a tall boy with brown hair that he could never style and dark brown eyes. "Oh boy did you miss out! It was all-" She started messing her face up into a look of shock and confusion. "Oh, I will cherish that memory forever." She stated dreamily, a large smile still lingering on her face.

After the ever so long mission debrief with admiral Kane, and a very annoying rival aviator making jokes and annoying comments, they all headed to the canteen for lunch.

She and Alex walked away from the line of workers with a tray of food in each of their hands and sat down at their usual table with the other members of their squadron. They were all quite close but she was definitely closest with Mickey, they just understood each other and didn't have to push for anything.

They were almost halfway through their food when Isaac "Pirate" Walters sat down at the table. It wasn't unusual for him to join their table, he was a member of their squadron after all, it was just that he had such a cocky attitude. He had light skin and a mop of beach blonde hair, he was the same height as her and had a very open personality.

"So, how'd you enjoy today's training Pirate?" She asked him, her voice laced with sarcasm, while resting her chin in the palm of her hand. She knew that he wasn't happy about it, she had gotten a missile lock on him pretty fast, of course while using her signature move, the very one that had gotten her her call sign.

He only looked up from his plate to roll his eyes in her direction before going back to talking with his friends. He hadn't expected her to go inverted over him; it had surprised him so much that it had given her the opportunity to get a lock on him. She had used this move before, but it always seemed to surprise everyone.

She had just finished eating her food and was waiting for Alex so they could leave together. "Maverick!" She heard somebody shout over the chatter of the canteen, she and most of the other members of her table craned their heads around to try and see where the shouting was coming from. Once the caller finally reached their table it turned out to be vice admiral Treece.

She stood up from the table. "Yes, Sir." She nodded. "Admiral Kane would like to see you in his office, right away." He said to her, and she quickly responded. "Yes, Sir." Before he walked away and out of the canteen and down the hallway.

She turned back to her friends, picked up her empty tray and flashed them a nervous glance before turning to put back the tray and leave for the Admirals office. She and admiral had a confusing relationship, he always said did not like the way she flew and reprimanded her for it plenty, but she never stopped and he never took any course of action towards discharging her.
