Chapter 3

"So," She clapped her hands in front of her chest. "Who's ready for day 1 of water survival training?" She spoke with a big smile on her face. She had gotten somewhat close with them, she hadn't spent too much time with them, other than taking them up in the Cessna they had done work with the other trainers for the recent exercise they went through. Out Of all of them she was closest with Tom. He was the only one she had spent one-on-one time with, and that was only to plan the training.

It had been a week since they finished flying in the Cessna and they had spent the past week getting in shape for the next stage of training.

She was standing in front of the cast-including Tom. They were all dressed in flight suits and were about to get in the large swimming pool that they were about to train in. She and Tom had decided to put them through a smaller version of the standard military training that she had had to go through, which would allow them to fly the jets. Even though Tom had done this and had his pilot licence, he needed to do a refresher course.

So, here she was, standing in front of them, smiling at them, while they -minus Tom- looked at her as if she had just murdered their families. She had just told them what the water training would entail: Swimming laps with the flight suit and equipment on, and the one that scared them the most, be put into a cage blindfolded, dumped in water about 8 feet down, get turned upside down and finally, escape.

They started off with the laps and everyone did pretty well, Danny had just gone and gotten dried off while Monica started her laps. When Danny came back he decided to make a video. Monica had just gone under for her second lap and Katerina was standing by the edge with Tom and the instructor, who Katerina knew pretty well from her training days. "So there is Monica, she's doing her laps now." Danny pointed to Monica from behind his camera as he narrated. Then he panned over to Kat at the side of the pool. "And here is Captain Baird." He said as the camera videoed her. She turned her head away from the pool and smiled at him. "Hey Danny." She said as she noticed him videoing her. It seemed to be a recurring theme with him. She smiled at him once again and then turned back to the pool where Monica was finishing up her last lap. He panned back to where the rest of the group was sitting in the shade and chatting amongst themselves.

Katerina and Tom walked away from the instructor and over to the shaded part of the pool where the cast was sitting. Once They reached them Tom announced the plan. "Alright, listen up!" He started. "When we come back from the weekend we will be starting with the second stage of water survival training. You all know what this entails, so be ready. You will be trained for it in pairs but do the actual thing alone."

After everyone had dropped off their stuff at the base Katerina had expected them to all head home but as she was packing up her stuff she noticed that they were all hanging around. She had finished packing all of her things and was about to leave for the dorms when the main cast (Glen, Miles, Monica, Danny and Lewis) came up to her.

She slightly cocked her head to the side as she eyed them all. Miles spoke up first. "So we were wondering if there was a place that we could go to get a few beers?" She looked at him for a second before smiling and nodding her head. "Yea," She said. "Me and my friends go to a place that we call 'Aviate and Vodka'." She spoke with a chuckle, the name was an inside joke between her and her graduate class.

"Is that like the real life version of 'The Hard Deck'? Danny asked, peeking his head out from behind Lewis. "Yea." Katerina nodded her head towards him. "Where would we find this place?" Danny inquired. "I will take you, I was heading there anyway." They all nodded their heads, it would be nice for there to be a friendly face there. "I'm just going to drop my stuff off at my bunk and then I will take you." Katerina spoke as she started walking out of the locker room, prompting them to follow.
