The ride home was uneventful. The boys tried to ask more about Rodrick and your conversation, but you didn't want to tell them anything. It would be weird to say that he tried to have a bet about sleeping together. It would be even weirder to say that you considered it because of how competitive you are.
Once again in your room, you slide down from your bed onto the floor. The only light coming from the small lamp on your bedside table. The sun had finally set on this day and you realized you survived your first day in Plainview. Albeit, a very eventful day.
How can someone like Rodrick talk to people like that? As if this was all a game? You wanted romance not a one night stand. You wanted to fall in love, not fall into a random person's arms. And you guess that he wasn't totally random, but you hardly knew him and he wanted to get to know you very well. More than anyone ever has before.
Yes, it was slightly embarrassing to admit you hadn't had a boyfriend at this age. It was more embarrassing to admit you were still a virgin. It was necessarily a bad thing, but oh man, the world made it seem like it was. All you wanted to do was stay inside, read a book, and not be bothered by anyone. Was that too much to ask?
Okay, that definitely made you sound like a virgin. You really needed to get out more before you became a spinster and lived in the woods. Which, damn, as much as you didn't want to sound like a virgin-loser, that idea sounded cool as hell.
So whatever Rodrick wanted to do wouldn't really work with you. Your first time was not going to be from a bet. And it definitely wouldn't be with someone who didn't care for you. Or at least only cared about your body. Or winning a stupid bet. Prick.
You got up from the floor, not feeling comfortable there either. You go to sit in front of your vanity. Staring at yourself in the mirror, you feel like you always have looked more like your mom than your dad or even a combination of your parents. Your mom was great, but your dad was your hero. Yes, you may have been your dad's favorite person and he was yours. Does that make you a daddy's girl? No, because why would you ever call your dad 'daddy' if you were twenty one years old?
But you missed them terribly. They still hadn't called or texted and their location services were turned off so you had no idea where they were at. Did they even care? Things between THEM were bad, so why did things between you and them had to be bad too?
TINK!
You hear a small sound that pulls you from your thoughts. Something had hit your window. You feel the slight scrunch of your brows while trying to figure out what it could be. It didn't sound like rain or a bird hitting the window or even a tree branch scraping the window. Your uncle would never allow that anyways. If he took such great care of bushes, trees had to be included.
TA-TINK!
Another rock hits. And this time, ignoring all the thriller books you read that quite literally tell you to never investigate the noise; you do it anyway. This wasn't a thriller novel. In fact, you weren't quite sure what type of book life you were living. You could only hope it was a good one.
Seriously, please don't be a thriller novel and a stalker is outside your window. Unless he was hot. Then this romance plot would work for you.
Moving to the window, you slide your hand against the thin curtain to look below.
Rodrick fucking Heffley. Definitely a stalker and as for his hotness...
You take a step back so he can't see your reaction to him being there. Why the hell was he here? What the hell did he want? How the hell did he know which room was yours?
Taking a breath, you slide the curtains away and hoping this wasn't a mistake, open the window, and kneel down to talk from your high and mighty tower.
"Hi." You simply say, nothing more. You try to keep your voice as neutral as possible. You shouldn't give him a reason to be excited to see him or worse annoyed to see him. He'd never let you live it down.
