After dropping off Rowley and Greg, you knew the car ride home required no music playing. You truly had to think in silence. And yes, it was absolute torture. If you were in a car, there had to be music playing. Otherwise you had to listen to your own thoughts.

Which is exactly what you needed to do.

Your hands gripped the steering wheel hard as you sat inside your car.Your knuckles turning white as you mulled over options. You had agreed to chat with Susan, you had to stick to that commitment for her. You also agreed to yourself you would speak with Rodrick, you had to find a way to stick to that commitment for yourself. And for him.

You unbuckle yourself and slowly get out of the car. It's not that you didn't want to talk to Mrs. Heffley. She seemed nice, although was obviously having a rough morning. It's just that you would much rather find Rodrick and speak with him. But you were interested in what she might want to speak with you about.

Your knuckles feel heavy against the door due to your rush to get inside. When the door swings open you're greeted by a more put together looking Susan Heffley. You wonder if Manny, the youngest Heffley brother, was still around. If he was, you were going to stay far away. Something about his sudden appearance and then disappearance made you very weary of him.

"[Y/N]! So glad you came back! Would you like something to drink? I was about to make tea." She opens the door, wider now, for you to enter. The house looks relatively the same from 30 minutes ago. No sign of Manny anywhere. No sign of Rodrick either.

"Sure, sounds great." You say, following her into the kitchen. You need to figure out if Rodrick was here or not. Maybe you would talk to Susan for 30 minutes at the most, but any longer and you were wasting time. It's not like you did not NOT want to talk to her, but it's very odd to talk to the mother of the man you were grinding on less than 12 hours ago.

"I'm really glad you're here. It's been super hectic these past few weeks and I feel like I'm spiraling." She gets a kettle out from a cabinet and begins to fill the water. How long did it take for water to boil? How much longer would you be talking with her?

God, that sounded rude. But it was the truth. You were here with ulterior motives.

"I'm sure you're doing the best you can with the situation..." You offer, hoping to give some advice. You weren't a mother, you weren't a house wife. It was difficult to find some common ground for you and Mrs. Heffley. You wanted to be there for her and be sympathetic, but man was it a struggle.

"I'm a failure!" She cries out. Fuck.

You were a nice person, but you were awful at comforting people. How much was too much? Were you doing enough? Do you hug them or like give a fist bump? What was the protocol here? What do you do for a stressed out mom you have only known for about 10 minutes total?

She throws the kettle she was filling up, into the sink. The clatter was loud enough to make you jump. She stood over the sink beginning to cry and you were now really confused. Do you comfort her? Is she going to throw another kettle? Where the hell was Rodrick?

"Mom?" a voice says. You turn around and see him finally making an appearance. Your eyes are wild and crazy, begging to be taken away from the situation. You watch as confusion forms on his face and then turn to realization. You have to act before he does, Mrs. Heffley doesn't know that you already know each other.

"You must be Rodrick." You quickly make your way over to him, grabbing his hand and shaking it. "Nice to meet you. I'm [Y/N]." He needs to get with the program and pretend you have never met. Otherwise your conversation earlier with Mrs. Heffley was going to get complicated. She would begin to wonder how you know each other. And you could NOT trust rodrick to not say that you were fuck buddies. Well, technically not true, but you know that's how he would phrase it.
