This day was already off to a rough start.
You didn't sleep well. You cried your eyes out so now you were puffy and slightly congested. You had to use concealer to cover your hickies.
Despite all these things, you were going to be there for Rowley. He was there for you when you needed him, so it was time to repay the favor.
You had agreed, yesterday of course, to drive Greg and Rowley to their last day of school. That was of course before you had even met Rodrick Heffley.
But still, a promise is a promise. You were going to go into Greg's house, head held high, and bite your tongue.
The longer you thought about it, Rowley was right. You wouldn't be seen with a guy like that. Not unless something was going on. So it was better to stay away until things were figured out. You can not be near Rodrick again. Not when you were a little mentally unfit. Who knows where you could end up? It wouldn't be a pool next time, but probably his bed. Or God forbid, his car. Or anywhere else.
You were projecting your feelings quite literally everywhere and acting out in ways that no respectable girl should. Is that slut shaming, you thought?
Maybe you did have a problem with intimacy. You always had, right? You could read about love, but not experience it yourself. And when you got the chance for a stupid, random make-out sesh, you bombed it afterwards. Even when it started out really good. Like, honest to God, if he had only just kept kissing you; you'd probably have orgasmed from it. How can one guy have that much power over you like that? He totally undid you and you liked it.
You could not show your face again to Rodrick.
But there was also the part of you that realized you said hurtful things to him. You lashed out. You were all of the things he called you and more. You were probably going to meet his parents today, but you definitely didn't deserve to.
You hadn't ever had a boyfriend. You've never had to meet the parents of any guy because you, [Y/N], did not date. You were pretty, but let's be honest, not a showstopper. Boys in college have other things to worry about than some girl who wants to be a child psychologist. You only read books, went to coffee shops, but never ended up in some coffee shop AU. And the fact that you know what a coffee shop AU is... that was proof enough you didn't get out much. It was proof you thought about love and sex, but probably were still a virgin.
"Are you going to come inside, [Y/N]?" Rowley asks, leaning into the passenger window. You had been so inside your head, you didn't even notice that you had parked and he had gotten out.
"Um, yeah. Sorry, zoned out for a minute there." Your hands grasp the steering wheel and you shake your head. Blowing out a breath, you turn the car off and get out. This wasn't hard. Just go inside, get Greg, and avoid Rodrick. Easy enough.
As you and Rowley walked up to the door, you felt almost... excited? Okay, maybe there was a small part of you hoping to see Rodrick. No one had ever made you feel like that. Or do things like that. No, not just the making out part, but that easy feeling. He made things seem easier, that going into a school at night was easy and normal. He made you feel normal.
A quick knock on the door and you were greeted by a woman. Her copper hair was partly pulled away from her face, which had a slight tan. She was wearing a floral blouse with khakis that stopped mid calf.
"Rowley, look at you! Last day of sophomore year for you boys. Please stop growing up!" She whines and then laughs. You offer a small smile as this was awkward. You could only assume this woman was Rodrick's mother and they didn't really look alike. Not even their brown eyes were the same. His so dark and hers almost amber.
