Upon sneaking out of the neighbor's backyard and easing onto the street as if nothing had happened, Ocean and Eve both gave one another a knowing glance upon their phones buzzing at the same time.

Pulling out hers first, Ocean was the one to check.

After the group either laughed at, loved, or emphasized the last message, Quincy suggested they meet at the Waffle House down the street. Other than In-N-Out, it was usually their go-to place at this time of night.

Making their way in that direction, Ocean and Eve walked in silence for a moment before Eve was the one to break it.

"I probably should've eaten more before we left the dorms..."

"All I know is if you throw up on my shoes we gone have to fight," Ocean said, and Eve scoffed a snicker.

"Over some shoes, Shaun??"

She shrugged. "It's either that or I'm running you over with a car-"

"You don't have a car here," Eve smiled at her while they strolled. "Remember?"

"I'd hijack one..."

Not even believing her own words, Ocean glanced over to find Eve smirking knowingly at her, holding back a laugh.

"No you wouldn't."

"No I wouldn't," she let a chuckle escape while Eve giggled with the shake of her head. "It's the thought that counts, okay!"

"I love you man," her best friend sighed happily, her smile weightless and without care.

Ocean wasn't sure if it was the three words said or the way she said it, but it prompted her to glance at Eve a second time. Not that she could figure why, but her smile faded as the gaze of longing returned behind her eyes. She didn't want it to, nor did she particularly like the fact that she found herself without an easy response all of a sudden.

Breaking the trance in just that moment, Ocean then peered down at the ground before Eve could notice, now finding the buckle of her overall strap interesting enough to fidget with.

Within the brief silence, and still a bit intoxicated despite the spontaneous escape sobering her a little, Eve drew her gaze from the lineup of beautiful houses to her best friend. Noticing in an instant, given the way her hands played with her clothes and her spirited demeanor suddenly diminished, Eve took a gentle hold of her arm, halting their walk.

"Hey..." She didn't smile back as Ocean flashed a grin. Frowning to let her know that she wasn't buying it, Eve tilted her head. "What's wrong, Shaun?"

"I don't know," she admitted before she could respond with 'nothing.'
