OmniscientSeasonal decor dressed every corner of the university's campus, from the entrance to the courtyard to the dorms, all as colored leaves fell from deciduous trees, exposing the silhouette of their branches.
Thanksgiving break was a weekend away, and the students of USC were one exam away and two days closer to a week full of bliss due to the absence of academic stress. Well, most of them anyway. If anything, for stem majors especially, the pressure would probably be higher than ever during that so-called 'break,' for the end of the semester was indeed near, dear, and pressing to their every nerve.
In Ocean and Eve's dorm, a certain cozy atmosphere held the air as each member of their band of seven occupied their room.
On the sofa were Soraya and Paris, sharing a blanket on one end, while Diamond and Ocean shared a blanket on the other end. Sitting atop the plush rug on the floor, and gathered around the coffee table, Eve, Isaiah, and Quincy played a game of Uno as they all waited for the lasagna in the oven to finish cooking.
It was supposed to be a movie night, which it did start as, before it became just a cherishable share of quality time since it was their last weekend before they were all to leave for the holidays.
Between their phones and 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' playing on the TV, those on the couch kept themselves entertained amongst one another as they occasionally tuned into the game occurring at the coffee table on the floor. Each of them wore coordinating fall pajamas, with the additional hoodie or university crewneck of course, all while sporting a pair of fuzzy autumn themed socks.
The ambience within the dorm was utterly calm and smooth and without an ounce of aberration.
That was, until Soraya parted her lips to speak softly, almost to herself as her eyes had gone dazed upon the card game at the center of the table.
"I think I wanna change my major..."
Six heads turned to her before Eve was the first to respond, her face scrunched. "What??"
"Why??" Diamond followed.
"I thought you liked accounting," Isaiah found Soraya's eyes to peer into, his own filled with confusion and maybe even concern. "Not anymore?" he asked after a moment, and she shook her head a little. "Why Ry?"
"Because," Soraya blew out a sigh toward the ceiling before glancing in Paris and Ocean's direction. They were the only ones that she'd said anything to about it before now. "The more classes I take for that major the more I hate it. And it's only sophomore year so I'd rather do something about it now, before graduation hits and I'm already hating my job and my life before it even starts...." Looking around at their faces, she twisted her lips and cocked her head. "Does that sound crazy??"
"It sounds impulsive, but not in a bad way-" Eve stacked her cards before resting them in her lap as she sat back, the back of her head meeting Ocean's inner knee as she looked up to her left at Soraya. "What major you gonna replace it with?"
Her friend then grimaced before muttering, "I don't know yet..." Then she chuckled with her head in her hands once it earned a combination of sighs and knowing chatter.
"See," Diamond pointed a finger across the sofa, wearing a snickering smile that made Soraya roll her eyes. "That right there is your problem. You don't even like nothin' else."
"How will I know what I don't like if I don't at least try it though?"
"Shit, I say do what you gotta do," Quincy shrugged, gaining a satisfied nod from Soraya in response. "I changed mine like twice."
