DiamondOne thing most people don't mention about moving away for school is how alone you truly are.
It makes quite a difference, if you always had been or if there's a support system ready to catch you with open arms should you fall. It makes a difference, having someone to call whenever you've just had a bad day, or when you've had a good one. It matters, whether or not you come here with a family already, or if you have to make one of your own within these four years.
Now, I do have people that care about me, and I love them for it beyond words. Although, that wasn't always the case.
Class this morning had me thinking about a life I well intended to simply leave behind. However, I suppose doing that was useless though, given my major. Its purpose is to be applied to life and the world I see around me, which evidently includes my own issues also, I guess.
Noise canceling headphones were an accessory to my hair today as the wind blew while I walked down the steps of the math building, leaving my second class of today. I didn't have another until one, which was two hours from now, so I made my way to the student center for lunch and homework. Happy on the inside, I pulled out my phone that was playing music to text Dakota and see where she was, all while getting in the Moe's line for food.
Fifteen minutes later, I was searching for the spot she said she was in, then grinned to myself the minute my eyes laid upon her.
With her back to me, there she sat alone at the end of a high table beside the wall, a show playing on her laptop and her fork held up in her hand. She wore a graphic crop top and flare leggings from what I could see, her short and curly hair in a cute messy claw clip.
"Hey pretty girl," I bent over her shoulder a bit to kiss her cheek from behind before rounding the table to sit across from her with my food. By her blushing reaction, I sensed she didn't expect me to do that in public. It made me chuckle before growing a bit cautious. "My bad, was that okay to do? I didn't think to ask-"
"Why're you sitting over there?"
Not sure what to say, I exhaled a smile and shrugged. "I don-" Dakota held my gaze while patting the seat next to her, and I got the hint to stand up and relocate right away.
When I did though, her face was telling me that something was still missing. And as she simply gave me a blank stare while I situated myself, I looked at her with a humorous laugh and teasing smile.
"What, Dakota?" She blinked at me and held back her grin. Already knowing what she wanted, I curled my fingers under her chair to slide it closer to me. Her gorgeous smile was sheepishly revealed right then. "Better?"
"Much." With laughter, I shook my head before tending to my food. And like usual, I could feel her adoring eyes on my every move. "How was class?"
