I'm currently sitting outside the Ferrari garage, waiting for Ginny to come back from seeing Charles. She told me it would be 15 minutes at the most but it's just gone past 30. It's fine though. I'm enjoying the second coffee I got for myself after the first one went cold from waiting. I guessed that Ginny wanted to drink with me but apparently not.
"Jen!" A voice I recognised made me turn my head. Arthur was walking towards me, Jade following. "Jade said you would be here!"
I stand up, and give him a quick hug. "Here I am." I pull back and throw Jade a smile which she returns.
"Where is Ginny?" His question makes my eyes roll.
"Um, still with Charles." I mutter and Jade giggles.
"Still! She went into his room half an hour ago!" Jade exclaims and I just nod sadly.
"Yep." I sigh. "That's them."
Arthur looks around suspiciously before whispering something to Jade. She smiles and looks up at him like he's her whole world. I look away. "Jen, you wanna come with us?"
My eyes glance down at my phone, checking the time. Still 3 hours till the race actually starts and i'm sitting alone relying on Ginny to entertain me. "Sure why not, but can I go where you are going?"
"You can go anywhere, especially with me." He waves at me to follow and I do, falling into step with Jade who hangs back to talk to me. My half finished coffee is dumped in a bin.
"Very exciting, right?" She asks and I smile.
"Actually, yes it is." I look around the unfamiliar surroundings of the pit lane. "It's a bit boring, no?"
She sighs with relief. "Oh my god, thank you for saying that! Yes, it can be boring!" She voice is filled with excitement but she keeps her voice low. "I am glad I'm not the only one who finds it so." Arthurs wandered away and stared talking to a man in a Ferrari shirt, so he can hardly hear us.
I moment goes past, just us walking behind Arthur slowly before I say something. "Do you speak French or..?" I turn my purse to my other hand.
"Oui, oui, I do but I noticed you were not to Arthur when we first met so I wanted to make you more comfortable." my heart swells at her comment and she smiles straight ahead.
"Thank you so much, thats so kind of you." I gush and she waves her hand like it's no big deal. Her black dress flows around her ankles and creates a hue around her. She seems to be magnetic and I can see why Arthur likes her. Her hair is slightly crimped and perfect, not a strand out of place.
She looks over to me. "You look gorgeous." I glance down at my plain white dress, pursing my lips together.
"It was the only thing that was appropriate for Monaco." I confess.
She laughs. "Same here."
Something catches my eye just ahead of Arthur. A man in a McLaren shirt is backing up, filming someone who seems to be walking quite slowly. He's taking a whole storm of people with him and Jade grabs my arm lightly to move me out of the way. But then I realise it's not just a guy in a McLaren shirt it's also a driver. The pole sitter to be honest.
Lando's walking and talking with the camera, pointing out certain things. I try to stop looking at him, I really do but he's so... Lando. The tanned skin, the cap (which once in his life is not backwards), the bright papaya shirt and the necklaces, gently clinking together as he talks. It's him to the point. I'm staring when I shouldn't be and he catches me. He looks at me. Straight at me. I'm close enough to hear him stutter when me and Jade walk by, dresses flowing out around our ankles. I nod once and then he's gone. I can't see him anymore, disappeared into the hoard of people wanting the famous smirk in their camera roles.
