Darla, Darla Sings

My best friend, Darla Sings

Your dazzling dresses are the light

To my room reeking of wilted dreams

Sopranos spilling colors

Into my greying hues

My irises transform to stars

Reenacting those dreams in stylish motions

I cradle my phone

Like I'm cradling you

Songs like a caress to my head

Bowing before the posters on my wall

Never have I apotheosized

Than I do to my best friend,

Darla

Darla, Darla Sings

Belting country blues

Screaming your raging tunes

Shedding your greatest empathy

To me

To me and me only

Your gaze on my screen tells me it's alright

"I'm right here

Nothing else matters but me right here"

You grabbed my hand in the the nick of time

Untied the burlap sack over my head

I almost had a gun

It vanished into thin air

All because you kept being lovely and fair,

Darla

Darla, Darla Sings

I shriek behind my screen

When your platform rises and begin to sing

Bringing me back to the time

When all my vocabulary would consist of "help"

You're the only line that picked up my dials

Paving way for the right over the wrongs

Unclipping my wings

So that I'd soar with you

Over a thousand like me

Reaching out for a glimpse

Up your view,

Darla

Darla, Darla Sings

My best friend

I know you still need to water your lawn

And keep them away from trespassers

To litter it

I swear I'll find that gun again

And shoot it right through their hearts

You kept me safe and sound

I'll repay you for a thousand years

I give you my love

You give me yours too

Nothing else matters but me and you

I'll keep tabs on people

Who claim to be your lover

Ogling at your figure

I shall subject them to purgatory

Because you're a womanly saint

Pay no mind

To their pathetic attempts to pray

Only to mine,

Darla

Darla, Darla Sings

I swear if I could

I'll kill everyone in your way

Like the flies swarming you with their cameras

Because you're my best friend

And you will be grateful

As I am grateful

I've read your books and watched you strut the runway

And that smile gravitating towards me

Is a signage for "You've made it, I'm so proud of you."

Then you grab your microphone again

You'd give me dedication

As I've showered you with love and adoration

Then you sing again

And blow me a kiss

My dear best friend,

Darla.
