Chapter Sixteen

Tazmin's house looked exactly the same as the other night.

Even the same two cars sat out front, which I assumed to be the twin's cars.

The other car, however, I wasn't sure who it belonged to.

I tugged open my door just as Tazmin put the car in park—slipping out of my seat as she slid out of the driver's seat.

And as she approached me, I slid off my heels, deciding to go barefoot as she guided us into the air-conditioned house.

"Mav and Vic are waiting for you," Tazmin said, her voice blunter than usual.

I furrowed my brows, glancing around the open living area until I suddenly glanced outside—noticing the two twins seated at the sectional with the fire going.

"I don't want to speak to them," I determined, still irritated with them for thinking Tazmin's jokes were funny.

I thought the cookie cake was a peacemaking effort, but clearly the fuck not.

"Where in my sentence did I imply it was a question?" Tazmin said, suddenly pressing her hand to my upper back and guiding me to walk outside to them.

Which I reluctantly did, not bothering to take the time to argue about something that I knew would happen regardless.

"Taz," Mav greeted the woman beside me, glancing away from the man seated across from them both.

Vic let out a long exhale of smoke, "Lena," he addressed me with a subtle smile that I didn't bother to reciprocate.

And almost immediately the man in front of them turned his head, flashing me his familiar smile.

"Rafael?" I suddenly whispered, furrowing my brows as I processed that he was here, "Where's Marie?"

Rafael took the blunt from Vic's now extended hand, "She went home," he briefly explained, bringing the blunt to his lips, "I'm glad to see you got off though—I didn't know you ran with Taz."

I gave him a blank look, "I don't," I mumbled, taking a step away from the woman.

Who only pulled me back to her by my waist.

Which quickly made Rafael's dark eyes divert down to the contact Tazmin initiated with me.

"We're having some current issues Rafael—and it seems you might be able to help," Tazmin said, holding me in place when I tried to squirm out of her hold.

Rafael tilted his head, "Oh is that why Mav invited me over?" he asked, looking at Tazmin before turning his gaze back to me.

And when the twins suddenly stood up together, my eyes widened—now trying to full-on jerk away from the woman behind me.

Especially since I knew what she was planning to do.

But she only tightened her grip, pulling my arms behind my back.

"It's nothing personal," Vic told Rafael, whose brows immediately furrowed.

Until Mav threw the first punch.

"Fuck," Rafael breathed out, bringing his hand up to his face.

But before he could touch the forming bruise, Mav was restraining Rafael's arms behind his back.

"Tazmin," I jerked against her, nearly twisting my own arms to slide out of her hold.

But it was no use.
