Chapter Sixty

"You should tell Tazmin," Marie suggested as she sat across from me, taking a bite of one of her fries.

I shook my head, "She specifically said not to fuck this up and I fucked it up," I said, knowing I had spent all last night torn over what I should do after how things went with Adriana yesterday.

And Tazmin wasn't even an option right now.

Luckily, my day has been normal so far—nothing was out of place.

Marie rolled her eyes, "You need to drop-kick your ego right now," she said as she continued eating her fries.

Meanwhile, I couldn't stomach any food so I decided to skip lunch and just get a glass of my favorite wine.

"It's not just my ego—she clearly doesn't want to be around me or even involved in this," I countered as I took a sip of my wine.

Marie raised a brow, "And did Tazmin verbally communicate this?" she purposely asked.

Which made me narrow my eyes at her, "It was her body language—she literally got out of the car before I could talk about anything," I pointed out, knowing I wasn't just making assumptions, "All she really said was to handle it."

Marie shook her head, "Oh, you handled it alright," she said with a growing smile.

I rolled my eyes, laughing slightly, "Yep, handled it so fucking good that I'm on Adriana's radar now," I sarcastically joked, holding up my wine glass, "Cheers right?"

Marie lazily raised her brows, "I still think you should tell Tazmin," she sighed, picking up her wine glass to clink with mine.

I hummed as I took a brief sip of the smooth liquid, "I'm sure Adriana will fill her in for me," I determined, not bothering to contribute to the Tazmin topic anymore.

Which left us discussing Marie's new client that she secured and my recent case that I've been working on.

In between being stalked by Tazmin's obsessive ex-girlfriend.

Eventually, we finished up with lunch and got the bill that I insisted on paying—until we went our separate ways.

The firm was luckily just how I left it.

Although I would be lying if I said I didn't sit in the car for ten minutes—and then scoped out my surroundings to ensure there weren't any FBI vans or cop cars.

It took me nearly twenty minutes to determine that the coast was clear and make it up to my office.

Which was luckily in time to prepare for my meeting with Ivanna scheduled for four—since we have a potential new client to discuss.

"So what do you think about the brief?" I asked, watching as Ivanna glanced over the file I previously handed her.

Ivanna nodded as she continued reading, "It looks really good Lena—I can get the visual presentation up and running by tomorrow," she said, closing the file to meet my stare.
