Chapter Thirty-Five

As soon as my hour-long meeting ended, I was almost immediately packing my things and rushing out of the firm.

Mostly because I wasn't sure how great Tazmin is with kids.

And she clearly doesn't say no to Nadia, which can be a good or bad thing.

I mean, I say no sometimes.

Only if it's necessary.

Hopefully, Tazmin understands when it's necessary.

The ride over to Miami Beach felt longer than usual, especially with the typical five o'clock traffic crowding up the freeway.

But almost as soon as I pulled past the gates of the familiar house and got parked—I was hopping out of my car.

And quite literally fast walking towards the familiar front door.

Full-on running felt like too much work.

It's not that deep.

"Where are they?" I asked the twins—who were leaning over the kitchen island eating ham and cheese sandwiches with barbecue chips.

Which they put inside the sandwich?

"Are you fucking high right now?" I asked, suddenly snatching the bag of Lays barbecue chips from Mav.

I swear to god they better not have smoked around Nadia or I will actually freak the fuck out.

Mav gave me a blank look, "We haven't smoked," he said as if my assumption was offensive, "Not while Nads is here," he explained, holding his hand back out for the bag of chips.

That I reluctantly handed back to him.

"They're out back," Vic told me, setting his sandwich down to open the bottle of apple juice.

And the combination of the sandwich, chips, and juices was funny to me, especially since they had the demeanor of ten-year-old boys—just covered in tattoos from head to toe.

I mean, I could genuinely laugh about this with them—if I wasn't looking for my niece.

Who was out back just as the Vic told me.

I furrowed my brows as I approached Nadia and Tazmin.

Who both were seated beside the infinity pool overlooking the sparsely-filled beach.

Only Nadia had her feet dipped in the water while Tazmin sat beside her, talking about something that I couldn't quite make out unless I got closer.

But just as I took a few more steps, Tazmin instinctively turned around—immediately meeting my green eyes.

Before noticeably glancing down to my body covered in my typical black work dress and matching stockings.

"Mel!" Nadia called out, slipping her feet out of the pool water to run over to me.

I smiled as soon as she wrapped her arms around me, "Hey honey," I greeted her, hugging her back.
