Chapter Forty-Eight

The next day I passed the time by sleeping in until nearly one and deep cleaning my apartment.

But when three inevitably approached, I began getting ready for a dinner that had left me nervous all day.

I kept my outfit casual—a deep green button-down blouse that I left open, wearing a white tank top underneath and matching white flowy pants.

My dark hair remained down and light makeup illuminated my sharp face.

And as I headed down to meet Tazmin in the parking garage a second evening in a row—

I felt good.

Less nervous than earlier.

But I knew the nerves would kick in as soon as we arrived at her parent's house.

"Hi baby," Tazmin said as soon as I slid into the car.

I smiled as I closed my door, "Hi," I greeted her back, turning to face her.

And openly taking in the grey short-sleeved top that clung to her body and exposed her tatted arms—along with the baggy jeans that hung so loosely on her small waist.

Her blonde her was down and tucked behind her ears, which easily illuminated her glowy bare face.

"You always look so good," I murmured, leaning in to press a kiss on her lips.

Tazmin hummed against my lips, "Thank you beautiful," she said, now pressing a brief kiss to my cheek, "Ready to go?"

I nodded before I could think it through, "All ready," I said, leaning away from her to buckle my seat belt.

Just like that, Tazmin put the car in drive—before gently sliding her right hand across my covered thigh where she rested it.

And as she maneuvered the G-wagon out of the parking garage, I relaxed back in the leather seat, peering out of the tinted windows.

It was only around a twenty-minute drive—one that slowly made my anxiety grow.

Especially after we pulled past the black iron gates—approaching the house lined with white paneling and black accents.

It looked picture perfect sitting on the precisely groomed grass—which looked so green under the blue sky slowly fading into a sunset.

Even the palm trees out front looked perfect.

It was one of those beach houses that you see in a magazine.

The ones that look so cozy from the outside.

It definitely soothed my anxiety in comparison to approaching a cold stoic mansion.

But it also left me wondering what Tazmin's life looked like growing up here—how she would spend her summer days or even the afternoons after a day at Claremont.

Which overwhelmed me a little...

I had never thought of anyone in such a way.
