Forty years ago, The Beatles asked the world a simple question. They wanted to know where all the lonely people came from. My latest theory is that a great many of the lonely people come from hospitals. More precisely the surgical wings of hospitals.
Meredith observed her girlfriend's morning routine from the bathroom counter. "Why did you act that way the other night?"
Charlie turned to Meredith, raising a questioning eyebrow. "Explain, my love?"
Meredith fondly rolled her eyes at Charlie's endearing nickname, knowing it was meant to tease her. "In the OR, Alex was on your service," she said, noticing Charlie's shift from warmth to annoyance.
"I'm not difficult to please," Charlie began. "Competence is crucial in our work, where people's lives are at stake. Alex's mistake led to a patient ending up in a coma. I could have handled it worse, but I chose to reassign him."
Meredith pondered what Charlie would have done if she were in Alex's position. "And if it were me?"
Charlie chuckled dryly. "Just because I love you doesn't mean I would overlook it. I hold myself to the same standards. You know the importance of double-checking orders in critical moments."
Meredith acknowledged that she had adopted this habit from Charlie, who emphasized the value of thoroughness to prevent errors. "Your influence, I suppose," she remarked after a moment of silence.
Charlie agreed. "It's a good habit to have, less mistakes that way." She then gestured towards the door, giving Meredith a pointed look. "Shouldn't you be on your way to the hospital already?"
Meredith chuckled, "I was thinking of asking my girlfriend for a lift."
"Girlfriend? Who? I thought I was your only one?" Charlie joked as she entered their bedroom, with Meredith following and shaking her head at her playful behavior.
"I don't have time to date around anymore." Meredith retorted. "Dealing with you is enough."
Charlie picked up her laptop bag, smiling. "Oh, am I a handful?"
Meredith replied, grinning, "Yes, and quite demanding too."
Charlie teased, "You must be mistaking me for your secret lover." She playfully put her arm around Meredith. "Don't worry, I'll make you forget all about that tonight."
Meredith laughed, "I never had a secret lover!"
Charlie kissed Meredith on the forehead and said, "See its already working,"

Nicu WardMeredith, Cristina, Izzie and George were all sitting near their Quint and since Meredith was reassigned to Charlies service she had been happy to sit by Lucy.
"So what was that about the other night?" Cristina asked moving her eyes from her Quint and looking at Meredith who was seemed to be lost in her own world as she stared at Lucy.
Meredith didn't react nor turn to face Christina, she knew the question would come up sooner or later "Nothing."
Izzie scoffed "That wasn't nothing, your girlfriend straight up ordered you to join her surgery." Meredith wasn't sure but she was sure there was still left over bitterness lingering in Izzie's voice. Meredith turned and looked at her brow raised "What? You think I planned that?"
Izzie scoffed and went to reply but George interrupted before she upset Meredith "What Izzie means to say, is that it was strange, we know Dr.Avery, rarely herself chooses you for a surgery, she usually leaves it up to Dr.Bailey."
