Chapter 59: Five Years Ago I

PART ONE
(Chapter 4: The Guy In White, Book 1: Winter)

“I now appointed you, Kang Taehyun, as an angel whose task is to grant peoples’ wishes.”

I’ve been walking on the Borderline shore for a while now since Hueningkai, the current Deity, appointed me as one of his Earth angels. It means, I am still a human but I have the abilities to do supernatural things in order to help his people.

There’s only one reason why I became one; that is to save someone.

When I open my eyes, it’s already morning. I started preparing for school and when I get out from my room, one of the maids asks me for breakfast but I just nod and went out of my way.

Mr. Lim quietly drives me to school and I heard him say in the middle of the way, “Should I get you something to eat first?”

“I’m good,” I replied in my polite tone and just look away.

At the gate of Gowon High School, I saw Jaechan waiting for me who’s living under a new name “Kim Woo Hyun”. He’s also an angel, since I’m new I needed his support and guidance.

“Are you contracted now?” he asks me as we walk towards the building.

“Not yet,” I just replied. “But I’m starting to hear some people’s request… especially in the middle of the night.”

“Then why aren’t you answering any?” he asks back.

“I don’t know how,” I replied instead.

“I’ll teach you, okay? Later after school,” he chuckles after.

That’s when the start that every school, Jaechan and I will hear people’s request that is worthy to grant— especially those who are in desperate needs. Up until night, we will be staying in the skyscraper to see the view and have a better hearing of where’s the exact location of the person.

“You just got home?” I heard my mom asks who has been waiting on the living, maybe, for some time now. “What time is it?”

“10pm,” I answered right away.

“And your curfew?” she asks and I can feel that she’s suppressing her anger.

“8pm,” I answered. “Good night,” I said before walking pass by her.

“Why are you being like this Taehyun?” she suddenly asks that made me pause. “You weren’t like this,” she added and her voice sounded so worried.

I didn’t reply and just walk directly to my room. After taking a bath, I sat on my study table and open my books. I don’t really want to think about anything right now especially with my mom. So, everytime I feel like this, I study instead to get away from stressed.

After a week, I had my first 90-day contract, and another one, and some are just minimal days. I’ve been at it for the whole year until I mastered how to properly handle people.

“There’s this golden rule,” Jaechan speak and put down his cup ramen before continuing. “To not to get involved with the wisher,” he added.

“What happens if you do?” I asked.

“That’s up to the Deity,” he said. “We shouldn’t meddle in human’s business although we are still humans but since we are on the both side of living and spirits, we should stay on the side where it is safe,” he added.
