Beca had never been one to open up about her feelings. She rarely told anyone what was going on inside her head. She absolutely never cried. Even when she was alone, she bottled up her emotions and put on some headphones, blasting music to drown out the pain. Chloe knew this about the girl. That's why on this particular day, she knew something was very wrong.
It was a very long day for the brunette. It started off being a bad mental health day in the first place, where she couldn't seem to get out of her head. She also was stuck in traffic and was 30 minutes late for work, she dropped three hot coffees on the ground, all of them spilling all over her clothing, her boss yelled at her because she 'hadn't wrote a good song since she'd been hired', and after that, she got in a fender bender on her way home. Luckily, it was minor. But the back of her brand new car was scratched and dented. The thing that really pushed Beca over the edge was when her dad called her to say her mother had started abusing drugs again. This hurt her a lot, as she had been clean for many years and promised Beca to stay clean. The brunette knew how much drugs affected her mom and didn't want to go through that emotional pain again.
After all of this, Beca ran to Bella's rehearsals, a few minutes late and not at all prepared for the three hour practice.
"Sorry i'm late." Beca rushed, out of breath as she walked through the door.
"You're okay, we just started warming up our voices." Chloe said cheerfully, happy that her best friend has showed up. While getting their voices loose, the redhead realized something was off about her co-captain. She figured she would leave it til the end of practice, but couldn't help but worry.
The next little while went by agonizingly slow for Beca. She could not keep herself focused on the task at hand. She kept getting lost in her own thoughts and really needed to drown them out with music.
Chloe kept looking over at her friend throughout the whole rehearsal. She noticed that Beca never really seemed like she was mentally there. She often stared off into space or seemed like she was having a mental battle of some sort. With 45 minutes left in rehearsals, Chloe couldn't stand it anymore. She had to see what was up with the brunette.
"Okay everyone!" Chloe announced after everyone sat back down in their seats while her and Beca stood in the front. "Split into two groups of four and practice the new moves we learned today. We will be watching you guys to make sure everything goes smoothly."
Everyone split into groups and the two captains stood there for a moment, watching the girls attempt to perfect their dances. Chloe looked over at Beca after a few minutes, seeing as her gaze had left the group and landed itself on the floor below her.
"Becs?" Chloe asked quietly, looking at the girl.
"Hmm?" She said, snapping her attention from the floor to Chloe's face.
"You okay?" She asked sincerely, resting a hand on her friend's shoulder.
"Yeah, just been a rough day." Beca said, her voice cracking like she could burst into tears any moment. Chloe could sense this and immediately knew they needed to be anywhere but there at the moment.
"Girls, we will be back in a minute. Keep practicing!" Chloe yelled before grabbing Beca's hand and pulling her into the hallway.
"Beca, what's wrong?" She asked, resting both her hands on her shoulders, switching her gaze between the girls eyes to study her expression.
"I-I don't even know." Beca croaked out, eyes getting watery as she continued to stare at Chloe's worried expression.
"You don't know?" Chloe said, eyes never leaving the brunettes desperate ones.
