Beca had just gotten over a mean illness a few days before hand, but she was already up and doing her normal busy activities all day long. She could still feel so lingering exhaustion in her body, but she refused to let another day go by without her being productive.
She woke up at around 6, her body still aching slightly and her eyes feeling heavy. She sluggishly walked to the bathroom to change and freshen up before grabbing a cup of coffee and leaving for her internship.
Throughout her shift, her eyes began to droop more and her focus became less and less. She knew this sickness was still taking a minor toll on her body, but she couldn't stand lying in bed all day anymore.
Once she got home, she saw Chloe in the kitchen, cooking up some lunch.
"Hey Becs, you want some?" Chloe said, looking at her tired friend.
"No, thanks. I need to go work on a set." She said, her voice slightly hoarse as she set down her keys and started for the stairs.
"Are you sure you're not still sick?" Chloe asked, concern written on her face as she studied Beca's body language closely. Chloe had been the one to take care of Beca while she was in her sick state. She knew that being as sick as she was, there was no way her body was feeling one hundred percent yet.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Beca said, climbing the stairs up and going to her room.
The brunette spent the next couple of hours at her computer, trying her best to create a new track. However, her focus could not stay on her computer for more than a few seconds as her body kept nodding off. She hadn't done anything for the time she was sick, so her body was exhausted getting back into her routine.
That afternoon, Beca was dozed off by her computer again when she heard a knock at the door, startling her awake.
"Come in." she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.
"Are you ready for rehearsals?" Chloe asked, standing in the doorway with her duffle bag around her shoulder.
"Shit." she mumbled, forgetting all about that part of the day, "Give me a few minutes." she began frantically searching through her closet for something to wear while tying her hair back in a bun.
"Beca, are you sure you're okay?" Chloe asked sincerely, walking up to Beca and grabbing her shoulder to hold her still.
"I'm fine Chlo." Beca said, putting her clothes on and grabbing her bag, "Let's go."
As they arrived at rehearsals, Beca tried her best to push her exhaustion to the side and put on a smile for the Bella's. All of the girls had missed their co-captain in the time she was sick, so Beca knew she needed to be back stronger than ever.
The girls sat down on their chairs, waiting in anticipation as Chloe talked about their plan for the day and while Beca leaned against the white board behind them. Everyone tried to pay attention to their ginger leader, but couldn't help but realize how tired the short brunette looked.
After the girls all warmed up their voices, they began to practice their choreography. The worlds were coming up soon, so they had to get it perfect.
The routine was looking really good. All of the girls were filling the room with their beautiful voices and were completely in sync with their dances. Beca, however, was struggling to even stand up at this point.
Chloe watched as the girls tried to perform the routine, but she couldn't help but stop everyone when she saw Beca stumble and bump into Fat Amy.
"Beca." Chloe said softly, making her way over to where the brunette was swaying side to side.
"I'm sorry Chloe." Beca rasped, looking at the floor.
"Don't be sorry," she whispered, pulling her away from the group. "You girls continue perfecting those moves. I'll be right back."
Chloe gave Beca a sympathetic look as they stood by the white board at the front of the room. Even though her sickness was almost gone, her body was still fighting with everything it had. Her face was pale, her hands were cold, and her eyes were drooping.
"Beca, you look exhausted." Chloe said, pressing her hand against Beca's forehead to check for a fever.
"I'm fine, I just-"
"Stop saying you're fine." Chloe whispered sincerely, her eyes meeting with Beca's. "You're obviously tired. Go lie down."
But Chloe I can't let everyone down." Beca whimpered, looking up at Chloe with teary eyes.
Chloe's heart broke at the sight in front of her. She couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl. She had been so sick for weeks and she knew how much Beca was committed to music and the Bella's. She knew how much Beca wanted to push through. But she also knew that Beca's body still wasn't fully rested enough to be doing her daily activities yet.
"Beca, listen to me." Chloe said, cupping her chin so they were looking at each other. "I know how much you want to do this. You are pushing your body way too much right now. I know you want to get back to your daily activities, I really do. But you look like you're going to collapse. And I can promise you that you aren't letting anyone down. The Bella's all want you better. I need you better. So please, go lie down?" Chloe finished with a whisper, looking into Beca's watery eyes.
Beca knew she was right. But she couldn't accept the fact that her body couldn't even let her get through a full day yet. With that, she leaned into Chloe's open arms and let out a few soft cries.
"I know Beca, I know." She soothed, holding her best friend as she cried into her arms.
"W-when am I gonna b-be better." She cried out into Chloe's shoulder as the ginger stroked her hair.
"Soon Beca. But you need to let your body rest. It went through a lot." she soothed, "You can go lie down on the couch for the rest of rehearsals. Take a small nap to get some energy back and I will wake you up when we finish."
And with that, Beca pulled back from her embrace and wiped a few tears away as Chloe slowly guided her to the couch in the corner of the room. There, Chloe gently laid her down and kissed her forehead, seeing Beca's eyes immediately shut.
"Im so proud of you." Chloe whispered so the already passed out Bella before making her way back over to the girls.
A few hours later, the Bellas had finished their rehearsals and were packing up. Thats when Chloe went back over to check on Beca.
"Hey, Becs." She whispered, kneeling down beside the couch and stroking the girls hair to slowly wake her.
Beca stirred slightly, cracking her eyes open slightly to see Chloe, forming a small smile and closinh her eyes again. "Hey."
"How are you feeling." She said softly.
"A little better." She said, enjoying the feeling of Chloe's fingers in her hair. "Thank you for taking care of me."
"Of course." Chloe said, "Anything for you. I love you Beca."
"I love you too Chloe." she smiled sleepily, realizing at that moment that Chloe was someone she wouldn't trade for the world.
