Sheriff
Part 2
"A protest?" Sasha asks, raising an eyebrow as she leans back in her chair. Amerie had burst into the room, practically vibrating with energy. Her eyes are wide, and she looks determined as she plants her hands on the table between us.
The two of us were camped out in the library, textbooks and highlighters scattered across the table between us. Normally, Sasha would be doing this with Quinni, but ever since their argument, I'd become her new study buddy by default. Not that I minded, but the tension between them still lingered like a faint cloud in the background.
Before I could respond Amerie continued. "We have to convince her to stay," Amerie says, her voice firm as she dives straight into her plan. "She's only put in her resignation because of us. So we've got to show her what she means to us. We've been hectic shits, and it's not on her. And it's got to happen now."
I blink at her, taking in the urgency in her tone. Beside me, Sasha smirks.
"Honestly, you had me at hectic shits," Sasha quips, leaning forward with interest.
"You had me at skip the last periods of the day, to be honest," I add with a laugh, already liking the sound of this plan.
The three of us sit down together, huddling closer as Amerie launches into the details of her idea. Sasha, ever the strategist, takes the lead, outlining exactly what we'll need to pull this off.
"First, you need bodies," Sasha says, her voice confident and matter-of-fact. "It's all about strength in numbers. So pick a time and a place, and Spread. The. Word." She emphasises each word with a pointed look, and Amerie nods, already brainstorming.
"Next, you've got to make a visual impact. Posters, banners, catchy slogans... you get the gist," Sasha continues, gesturing animatedly as she speaks. "And finally—fuel. You run out of food, it's game over."
She pauses for dramatic effect, leaning back in her chair with a grin. "Oh, and don't forget to practice your mugshot pose," she adds, striking an exaggerated pose as if someone's snapping her photo.
Amerie looks at her, slightly alarmed. "Wait—you think the cops are gonna come?"
Sasha laughs, waving off her concern. "Well, if they don't, it's a total fail," she says with a playful shrug.
Amerie exhales, nodding as she processes everything. "Lina, can you spread the word for me?" she asks, turning to me with an expectant look.
"Of course I can," I say without hesitation, standing up and gathering my things. I sling my bag over my shoulder, ready to get started.
As I head for the door, the buzz of excitement from the conversation lingers in the air. This protest was about more than just making noise—it was a chance to make things right.
The hallway buzzes with the usual mid-morning chaos—lockers slamming, voices echoing, and the occasional thud of someone running late to class. I weave through the crowd, scanning the stairs until I spot my brother. Spider's casually trudging down, earbuds dangling around his neck, looking like he doesn't have a care in the world.
"Oi, Spence!" I call out, my voice cutting through the noise. He stops mid-step, turning to glance at me over his shoulder.
"What?" he asks, his tone already laced with suspicion.
"You're doing this protest thing with me this afternoon," I state, crossing my arms as I walk up to him.
Spider snorts, shaking his head. "Nah, I'm not doing that," he says casually, stuffing his hands into his hoodie pocket.
