HOW TO BE LOVED

13 – Road to healing

Freen often found herself taking coffee breaks to recharge during her busy workday. The office cafeteria, with its hum of activity and the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee, became her sanctuary from the demands of her role as the company's resident model. One afternoon, as she entered the bustling cafeteria, she spotted Becky sitting alone at a corner table, scrolling through her phone.

Freen hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether to approach. She and Becky had been building a friendly rapport over the past few weeks, but Freen didn't want to intrude. However, the sight of Becky alone tugged at her, compelling her to make a move. With a deep breath, she grabbed her coffee and walked over.

"Hey, Becky, mind if I join you?" Freen asked, her voice light and friendly.

Becky looked up from her phone, a smile spreading across her face as she recognized Freen. "Not at all, Freen. Have a seat."

Freen settled into the chair opposite Becky, taking a moment to savor the warmth of her coffee mug. "How's your day going? You look like you're deep in thought."

Becky sighed, setting her phone aside. "Just catching up on some emails. It's been one of those days where everything seems to pile up at once."

"I hear you," Freen replied, nodding sympathetically. "I had a shoot this morning that took forever to get right. Sometimes, no matter how prepared you are, things just don't go as planned."

Becky chuckled softly, her eyes lighting up with understanding. "I know that feeling. But you always seem to handle it so well."

"Thanks, but trust me, it's not always easy," Freen admitted, her tone candid. "How about we switch gears? What do you do to unwind after a long day?"

"Usually, I read or watch a movie," Becky said, her demeanor relaxing as the conversation shifted. "How about you?"

"I love reading too!" Freen exclaimed, her enthusiasm evident. "What are you currently reading?"

"I'm re-reading 'Pride and Prejudice'. It's one of my favorites," Becky replied, her eyes twinkling with fondness.

"No way! That's one of mine too," Freen said, her excitement growing. "Maybe we should have a little book club of our own."

Becky's smile widened, clearly pleased with the idea. "I'd like that. It's always fun to discuss a good book with someone who appreciates it as much as you do."

Their conversation flowed effortlessly as they delved into their favorite books and movies, discovering common interests and enjoying the break from work. They talked about their favorite characters and plot twists, laughing at their shared opinions and differences.

"You know," Becky said thoughtfully, "I never would have pegged you for a bookworm."

Freen grinned. "There's a lot you don't know about me yet. And I have to say, I wouldn't have guessed 'Pride and Prejudice' would be your favorite either."

"Guess we're both full of surprises," Becky said, a playful glint in her eyes.

Their coffee breaks became a regular occurrence, a cherished routine that provided them with a much-needed respite from their hectic schedules. They bonded over their shared love for literature, discussing different genres and recommending new reads to each other. Freen often took the initiative to find Becky, eager to continue their conversations and deepen their friendship.

One afternoon, as they sat in their usual spot, Freen brought up a new book she had just started. "I'm reading this new mystery novel, and it's so gripping. You should definitely check it out."
