HOW TO BE LOVED
19 – Practically best friends
Becky's POV
The next morning, the house was quiet, a stark contrast to the lively celebration the night before. I woke up early and made my way to the kitchen, hoping to find a moment of peace before the day began. To my surprise, I found Mama Nun already there, brewing a pot of coffee.
"Good morning," she greeted me with a warm smile. "Did you sleep well?"
"Good morning," I replied, returning her smile. "Yes, I did. How about you?"
"Like a rock," she chuckled. "Do you want coffee or tea?"
"Coffee... but I'll prepare it myself," I said shyly.
"Hmm, suit yourself," Mama Nun said, gesturing toward the kitchen counter.
I walked over to the counter, reaching for a mug. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the kitchen, and I found it comforting. As I prepared my cup, Mama Nun watched me with a thoughtful expression.
"Last night was wonderful, wasn't it?" she said, breaking the silence.
"Yes, it was," I agreed, stirring in some sugar. "It was great to see everyone so happy."
She nodded, taking a sip of her coffee. "Family and friends make everything better."
I took a seat at the table, cradling my warm mug in my hands. "Mama Nun, can I ask you something?"
"Of course, dear," she said, her eyes kind and attentive.
Fuck, now that I'm about to ask the question, I suddenly don't know how. If Mama Nun doesn't know that Freen and Nam are lovers, I might be the one to spill their secret. And if it's the contrary, I might make myself look like a fool, and Nam's words last night won't make sense.
"Becky?" Mama Nun's voice cut through my thoughts. "Are you okay?"
I looked up at her and was about to speak when Freen entered the kitchen, looking groggy but concerned.
"Why? Is something wrong, Becky?" Freen asked, rubbing her eyes.
"Oh, um, yes, I'm okay. I just zoned out. Still sleepy, I guess," I responded quickly, trying to cover my hesitation.
"O-okay. But what was your question, Becky?" Mama Nun asked again, her curiosity piqued. Both of them were now looking at me expectantly.
"Oh! That! Right! Um, I was just going to ask if there are any tourist spots near the area?" I said, thinking quickly on my feet.
"We have a waterfall here!" they chorused, their eyes lighting up with excitement.
Relieved, I smiled. "That sounds amazing. I'd love to see it."
Mama Nun beamed. "It's one of the most beautiful spots around here. Perfect for a little adventure."
Freen nodded, her grogginess fading. "Yeah, we should definitely go. It'll be fun."
As we continued to chat about the waterfall and other local attractions, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me. I had managed to avoid a potential disaster, but the question about Nam and Freen still lingered in the back of my mind. For now, though, I was content to let it rest and enjoy the peaceful morning with Mama Nun and Freen.
______________
Freen's POV
We went for a swim to accommodate Becky's request to visit the waterfall, deciding to head back to the city in the evening since we had a driver anyway. The sun was shining brightly, and the cool water was refreshing against the summer heat.
