HOW TO BE LOVED
27 – A good night
Over the past days, both Freen and Becky have been deeply engrossed in their respective work commitments. Freen's schedule was packed with meetings, project deadlines, and team collaborations, while Becky was busy with client consultations, reports, and overseeing her department. Despite their hectic routines, Freen made a concerted effort to stay connected with Becky whenever possible.Freen would often send Becky good morning texts, accompanied by playful and flirtatious emojis. "Morning sunshine! 🌞 Hope your day is as amazing as you are." Sometimes, she included inside jokes they had shared, hoping to bring a smile to Becky's face.
Throughout the day, Freen continued to reach out, sending little messages about interesting things she encountered or just checking in to see how Becky's day was going. "Just saw a dog wearing sunglasses, reminded me of our last walk in the park 😂."
Whenever Freen had a free moment, she would drop by Becky's office. One afternoon, she brought Becky's favorite milk tea from the café down the street. "Thought you could use a pick-me-up," Freen said with a warm smile as she handed Becky the cup. Becky thanked her politely, but Freen noticed the subtle tension in Becky's posture, the way she kept her responses brief and focused on work-related topics.
In another instance, Freen waited until Becky had finished a particularly grueling meeting. She showed up with a small bouquet of red roses knowing Becky had a fondness for them. "Just a little something to brighten your day," Freen said, hoping to see a genuine smile. Becky accepted the flowers with a grateful nod, but her guarded expression remained, as if she was wary of letting her guard down.
Despite Freen's persistent efforts, she couldn't help but feel the emotional distance Becky maintained. Becky seemed cautious, almost hesitant, in her interactions with Freen. She often redirected conversations back to work, avoiding the personal and flirtatious undertones Freen tried to introduce. Even during casual office encounters, Becky kept her responses measured and professional, not allowing the playful banter to progress too far.
Friday evening, Freen decided to personally go to Becky's place after work. She mustered up her courage, hoping for a more personal conversation outside the office environment.
Freen took a deep breath before pressing the doorbell. Her heart was beating rapidly as she heard the bell ring inside the condo unit. She ran through various scenarios in her mind, trying to anticipate how Becky might react and how she would respond. Then the door opened, and Becky stood there, looking surprised to see Freen.
"Freen? What are you doing here?" Becky asked, her tone a mix of curiosity and caution, as she opened the door.
"Hey, Becky," Freen began, trying to keep her voice steady, but the nerves were evident.
"Who's that?" a voice echoed from inside.
"Oh, it's Irene. We're having a movie night," Becky explained, a hint of apology in her eyes as she glanced back towards the voice.
"Sorry," Freen scratched her nape awkwardly. "I guess I came at the wrong time."
"Oh, Freen, what a pleasant surprise!" Irene suddenly appeared beside Becky, her face lighting up with a welcoming smile. "What are you staring at, Beck? Why haven't you invited Freen to come in?"
"Uh, oh! It's fine, Irene. I don't want to intrude," Freen responded shyly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
"Huh!" Irene looked at Freen and shrugged off her statement. "What intruding? We're just having a movie night. Just catching up with my best friend. But it'll be greater to have you with us." She then reached out and gently pulled Freen inside.
