Vio's pov:

Shadow and I were walking through the halls of the fire temple. Exploring around as the monsters did things. For once Shadow seemed in a calmer mood then normal. His hat wasn't swaying as much, it denied the laws of physics in a calmer way. After a bit of slightly awkward silence, I spoke. "I noticed something." I started to get his attention.  Shadow looked over, his one ear perking up slightly like it does when he's curious. "What would that be?" Shadow asked genuinely curious. "Well," I started off. "I noticed you were different from the darks I read about." Shadow closed his eyes, mouthing something probably to himself. The movement of his hat stilled significantly. I wonder what I said wrong?

Shadow took a breath to calm himself before speaking. "That is because I'm not a dark Vio." Shadow corrected in a slightly annoyed tone. His ears were further down than normal. I paused thinking that over. I probably shouldn't ask but I was curious. "Then what are you?" Shadow took a second before responding. "I'm a shade, believe it or not there is a difference." Shadow's tone was clipped, he was obiviously frustrated. I pause again, I've never heard of the term shade before.

"Can you explain?" I ask him, I was curious what this meant. Shadow gave a stiff nod of his head. "Fine, a shade is a natural reflection of someone in the light world. While they are opposites, they're not necessarily evil. While a dark is a summoned form of the worst parts of someone and given a body. They often don't have a mind or behavioral pattern of their own. The key is everyone has a shade, but not everyone has a dark." Shadow explained, he obiviously has said this before. But I don't anyone ever listened.

I take a second thinking it over. So a shade is a natural occurrence, a reflection of someone else. While a dark is basically a mindless physical manifestation of someone's worst traits. Interesting, why is this never mentioned in Hyrule's books? "So the reason you act so different, is because while you are from the dark world. You're not a dark." Shadow nodded his head, he didn't seem as annoyed when I proved I was listening. After a moment Shadow sighed. "I'm sorry for being snippy, I just get annoyed when someone does that." Shadow crossed his arms, looking away.

I smiled slightly sympathetic. It probably was annoying and possibly hurtful to be called a dark. I hesitated before slowly resting my hand on his shoulder. Shadow looked over through his bangs at me. "It's alright, I'm sorry for getting it wrong like that." I say with a small smile. Shadow returns with a brief faint smile, his ears perking back up slightly. We continued down the halls with a now comfortable silence. And I added the new information to my slowly increasing knowledge about Shadow and the dark world.
