"Don't worry, they won't find this path. I connected the caves of dead vampire trees to make these paths. It's a maze down here, and only Mujika and I know the exits." Sonju explained to me, Mujika sheepishly admitting that she still gets lost around here; which I grinned at, knowing that when we first met she had brought us too far from where our other siblings were.
"The demons from the farms don't know their way around this forest. You can go straight on this path to get out of the forest." Sonju told me, the little kids jumping around ahead as they headed forward. I was behind with Sonju and Mujika, as Emma and Ray were with Don, Gilda, and Nat. Once my conversation died down with the two, I skipped over to Emma, who was in process of explaining the promise to the rest.
".. according to Sonju, the path is closed between the two worlds. We can't go to where we used to be able to go." Emma said, as I tapped her shoulder from behind and smiled. She gave a weak smile, and I knew it wasn't the right time to be jumping around all giddy. I had felt a lot better getting rest, as I was the last one of everyone to wake up, Thoma and Lanni had gratefully volunteered to scream in my face to wake me up, which provoked a string of cuss words to leave my mouth; which then caused Emma to run and slap my mouth shut.
"If that's true, we're on the demons' side of the world that was cut off. So what we read in books and thought of as the world wasn't here.. but a different place." Don said, the faces of Gilda, Nat, and Anna dropping, processing the new information.
"Well, that's why what we're aiming for in the end is to get out of this world." I said, Emma nodding.
"And Mr. Minerva probably knows how to do that?" Anna asked, her bright blue eyes shining brightly in the dark caves. She was a great friend who always helped to patch up me and Emmas ears, Ray insisting he do his own ear himself, but failing.
"Exactly. We'll go see Mr. Minerva and ask him how to cross between the two worlds. And we'll prepare and get everything ready within two years, go back and get Phil, Marnya, and the others.. and go to the human world. To do that, we're heading to B06-32!" I said. Even when I missed all my little siblings a lot, Phil and Marnya held a special place in my heart. Marnya was always eager to climb trees, and she would be one to always ask me to take her up in the trees during tag, latching onto my back as I carefully made my way through. Even when I lost earlier than others, Marnya would always exclaim how it was the longest she'd ever last in a game, and it made me grieve her absence, even if she was still alive.
"But, will it be that easy?" Nat asked, breaking me out of my mind, looking up as he stared with a doubtful look on his face.
"True.. besides, you were told it's impossible, right? To go back and forth, that it was part of the promise? We're a large group, and even if Mr. Minerva knows something, it can't go that smoothly." Gilda said, taking off her glasses to wipe them off, and wiping off a bead of sweat on her face as she explained her doubts. She looked nervous, and I knew she thought there was a chance we could be stuck here forever.
"I never assumed it would be easy. Traversing the two worlds is one thing, but first we need to survive in this stupid demon world. But hey, hope is starting to become a reality! We escaped, barely knowing what to do next; plus three near death experiences.. but I promise I won't let anyone die. We'll live together again, together! And we'll all be happy. Even if it seems impossible, I'll do whatever the heck it takes to make that possible. No matter how hard it is, we're going to make it to the world without demons." I turned around, wrapping my arm around Emmas neck and grinning, her cheering in agreement with my long rant. I would see a world with my old siblings, my new siblings, and we can all live together without worry.. and hopefully no migraines either.
"Can I say something too? I've been wanting to say this to you since yesterday, Emma." Gilda glared, before going to her and grabbing her shoulders, her face so close to the carrot head that their noses touched. "If you're not feeling well, you tell us immediately."
