Android 17 rarely ventured into the city, preferring the solitude of nature where he could protect the wildlife and enjoy the peace it offered. However, today was different. He had some supplies to pick up, and it had been a while since he had seen how humans were faring in the bustling metropolis.
As he walked through the crowded streets, his eyes scanning his surroundings, he caught sight of a small bookstore. Intrigued, he decided to step inside. It was there, amidst the smell of paper and the quiet ambiance, that he first saw you.
You were sitting behind the counter, engrossed in a book, your brow furrowed in concentration. There was something about the way you looked so peaceful and focused that caught his attention. He watched you for a moment longer than was socially acceptable, but he couldn't help it. There was something about you that he found... captivating.
17 wandered through the aisles, pretending to look at the books but constantly stealing glances at you. You eventually noticed him and offered a friendly smile. "Can I help you find something?" you asked, your voice warm and welcoming.
He paused, caught off guard by your kindness. "Just browsing," he replied, his voice softer than usual.
"Well, if you need any recommendations, let me know," you said, returning to your book but glancing up at him occasionally.
He spent more time in the store than he intended, feeling a strange sense of calm just being in your presence. When he finally left, he found himself thinking about you more than he expected.
Over the next few weeks, 17 made it a point to visit the bookstore regularly. Each time, he found excuses to talk to you, asking for book recommendations or just chatting about mundane topics. You noticed his frequent visits and began to look forward to seeing him, intrigued by the quiet, mysterious man who seemed to have an interest in books and, perhaps, in you.
One day, as you were organizing the shelves, 17 approached you with a book in hand. "Do you have any other recommendations like this one?" he asked, handing you the book.
You took the book and smiled. "You really liked this one, huh?" You scanned the shelves and picked out a few titles, handing them to him. "These should be right up your alley."
As he took the books from you, your fingers brushed lightly against his. There was a brief moment of electricity that neither of you could ignore. 17 cleared his throat, trying to act nonchalant. "Thanks."
You smiled warmly. "Anytime. So, do you live around here? I feel like I see you more and more often."
He hesitated, not used to sharing personal information. "I live outside the city. I just come here for supplies... and books."
"Well, I'm glad you do," you said, your smile growing. "It's nice talking to you."
He nodded, feeling a warmth he hadn't felt in a long time. "Same here."
As weeks turned into months, your conversations grew longer and more personal. You learned about his love for nature, and he discovered your passion for literature. Despite his initial reluctance, 17 found himself opening up to you, feeling a connection he couldn't deny.
One evening, as you were closing up the store, 17 lingered, waiting for you. "Can I walk you home?" he asked, surprising both of you with his boldness.
You looked at him, a mixture of surprise and delight on your face. "I'd like that."
The walk was quiet at first, but gradually you both started talking, sharing stories and laughing together. When you reached your apartment, you turned to him, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. "Thank you, 17. I had a great time."
He nodded, his eyes softening as he looked at you. "Me too. Maybe we could do this again sometime?"
You smiled, feeling your heart flutter. "I'd love that."
From that night on, your relationship deepened. You went on more walks, had dinners together, and spent countless hours talking about everything and nothing.
However, 17's protectiveness became apparent as your relationship progressed.
One evening, you were walking together in a park when a man approached you, asking for directions. Before you could respond, 17 stepped between you and the stranger, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "She doesn't need to talk to you," he said coldly.
The man raised his hands in surrender and backed away quickly. You placed a hand on 17's arm, trying to calm him. "It's okay, he was just asking for directions."
17's jaw tightened. "I don't trust him. I don't trust anyone who gets too close to you."
You sighed, knowing his protective nature came from a place of care but also understanding it could be intense. "I know you want to protect me, but you don't have to be so harsh."
His expression softened slightly as he looked at you. "I just can't stand the thought of anyone hurting you."
"I appreciate that, 17, but you have to let me interact with people. Trust me, okay?" you said gently.
He nodded reluctantly. "I'll try."
Despite his efforts, there were times when his protectiveness bordered on obsessive. One evening, you were having dinner at a restaurant when an old friend of yours approached the table. "Y/N! It's been so long!" your friend exclaimed, giving you a hug.
17's eyes narrowed, and he stood up, glaring at your friend. "Who are you?" he demanded.
Your friend looked taken aback. "I'm just an old friend. We used to go to school together."
17's fists clenched, but he forced himself to sit back down. "Fine. But don't overstay your welcome."
You apologized to your friend, who quickly excused themselves. When they left, you turned to 17, frustration evident in your eyes. "You have to stop doing that. It's embarrassing."
"I can't help it," he said, his voice strained. "The thought of anyone else getting close to you drives me crazy."
You sighed, reaching across the table to take his hand. "I understand, but you have to trust me. I chose to be with you because I love you, not anyone else."
He looked into your eyes, his expression softening. "I know. I'll try to be better."
Over time, 17 learned to control his protectiveness, though it never fully went away. You accepted it as part of who he was, knowing that it came from a place of deep love and care. And in moments when his intensity was too much, you reminded him of your trust and your love, grounding him and helping him find balance.
Despite the challenges, your relationship with 17 was filled with love and devotion. You brought out the best in each other, and together, you faced the world, knowing that no matter what, you had each other's backs.
