Madness ?

I stumbled as the familiar sensation of Kafka's teleportation spell wore off, the sudden disorientation leaving me light-headed.

My vision blurred momentarily before solidifying into the stark, cold interior of the HQ. The place was eerily quiet, the silence hanging heavily in the air.

Kafka stood beside me, her expression a mixture of exhaustion and determination. She wasted no time in getting to the point.

"We don't have much time, Y/N. Owl's gone completely mad, and he's destroying everything in his path." She looked at me more relaxed than she should be.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. The memories of the chaos and devastation Owl had wrought were still fresh in my mind.

"Why would he do this? What does he hope to gain?" I gulped.

Kafka's eyes narrowed.

"Control. Power. Insanity has twisted his desires into something unrecognizable." And she kept going.

"You're supposed to know since you were the one with him in this." She shook her head, sighing.

I nodded, absorbing her words. Yes, of course I know that... but I can't seem to remember anything...was I really the one who was supposed to fail them...?

"And Blade... he seemed almost eager to fight Owl. I— he could die, but—"

Kafka burst out laughing, a sound so unexpected in the current grim atmosphere that it jolted me.

"Blade? Die? Oh, Y/N, you really don't know, do you?" She looked at me, smiling.

Confusion etched across my face. What ? It's not like he ever told me anything...well, it's not like I asked, either way...

"What do you mean?"

Kafka's laughter subsided, and she shook her head, still chuckling.

"Blade is under what you can call... a curse. He can't die. No matter what happens to him, he will always come back. It's both his punishment and his salvation."

The revelation hit me hard. Blade, cursed with immortality. It explained so much about his reckless behaviour and his unending resolve.

"That's... unbelievable." I thought for a while.

"You'll ask him about it later. It's not that simple."

Kafka's tone shifted, growing more serious. She took out her phone and typed something.

"But we need to talk about something else. Silverwolf isn't here." She looked at me. Her face, for the first time, was almost full of regrets.

A chill ran down my spine at the mention of her name. I nodded.

Kafka's expression darkened.

"As we suspected, Owl killed her. She was close to uncovering his plan, and he couldn't risk her spilling the truth." She raised her finger.

"But, we have another lead. He may have killed her for no reason at all. Why ? Because he did not care about anyone discovering his plans."

I gulped, and my anger came back. How could I have ever... no. He's trying to manipulate me into thinking I somehow loved him. I'll stop him.

(Blade's POV)

The clang of metal against metal echoed through the desolate ruins, the ground beneath us trembling with each strike.

What was once his house was now a pile of bricks.

I pressed forward, my sword meeting Owl's with unyielding force. Sweat dripped down my brow, mingling with the dirt and blood that painted my face. Owl's eyes gleamed with a manic intensity, each of his movements calculated and precise.

"You die today, fucker." I growled, my voice barely audible over the noises of our fast movements.

Owl merely smirked, his grip on his weapon steady.

"Oh, Blade, always so resolute. But you and I both know this isn't about winning."

I tightened my grip, hitting harder. What was he talking about ? I can't waver.

In a swift move, Owl disengaged, stepping back with an almost leisurely air. He looked at me, his smirk widening.

"It's about suffering. It's about the endless torment you endure." I stood there, looking at him.

I froze, the unexpected words striking a chord deep within me. I couldn't help but laugh. This man had some audacity to speak about suffering.

"What do you know about suffering?" I spat, though my voice lacked its usual conviction.

Owl laughed, a sound devoid of warmth.

"I know about your curse, Blade. Your so-called immortality. The endless cycle of life and death with no respite. It must be agony."

My heart pounded in my chest, each beat a painful reminder of the curse I bore.

"What are you getting at, Owl?" He successfully got my attention. That won't last.

Owl sheathed his weapon, his eyes never leaving mine.

"I can offer you something no one else can. An end to your suffering. A way to make you truly mortal." Fuck.

The words hung in the air, heavy with implication. I stared at him, my mind racing. He's a liar, a manipulator.

"You're lying."

"Am I?" Owl's smirk remained, his tone infuriatingly calm.

"Think about it, Blade. An end to the curse. Peace. Death, at last."

I felt a tremor run through me. The very thing I'd longed for dangled in front of me like a tantalizing promise. But with that promise came doubt, uncertainty.

"Why would you offer me this? We're not allies."

Owl shrugged, the movement casual.

"Consider it a gesture of goodwill. Or perhaps, a way to rid myself of a persistent thorn in my side. Does it matter?" He chuckled, looking at the ruins around us.

I clenched my fists, my mind a tumult of conflicting emotions. The thought of dying, of finally escaping the endless cycle, was intoxicating.

But then, images of Kafka, Y/N, and the others flashed through my mind. Could I abandon them now when they needed me most? What am I thinking about... they don't matter.

"You hesitate." Owl observed, his tone mocking.

"Do you truly believe your life has purpose now? What has your suffering meant?"

I remained silent, the weight of his words pressing down on me. For so long, I'd fought against the curse, yearned for an end. And now, when the possibility was within reach, I found myself wavering.

Owl stepped closer, his voice a whisper.

"Think about it, Blade. Freedom. An end to the pain. All you have to do is accept my offer." He hummed and walked around me like a predator.

I looked into his eyes, searching for any hint of deceit. But all I saw was certainty. The offer was genuine, and the temptation was strong.

Yet, doubt gnawed at me. Could I truly leave everything behind? Could I forsake the fight when so much was at stake?

"I..." I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Owl's smirk returned, a look of triumph in his eyes.

"Take all the time you need, Blade. But remember, the offer won't last forever." He stopped and smirked.

"Oh, and this offer is not for free. You'll have to kill the pest...what's her name again... Kafka? When she comes back. And forever leave my wife. Y/N."
