(Shane's rampage)
"You look like you should be in line for the early bird special." Maggie joked to Glenn as we walked over to where him and some of the others were. His hair was all spiked up from when I washed the egg out of it. "Go get your cap. I'll wash it for you."
Glenn smiled at us before asking a much needed question. "Do you know what's going on?"
"No, where is everyone?" I asked him and he shook his head, looking as equally confused as I did.
"You haven't seen Rick?" He asked and I answered with. "No? He went off with Hershel, we were supposed to leave a couple minutes ago."
"Yeah, you were. What the hell?" Daryl shouted over as he walked up behind me. "Rick told us he was going out." Andrea said and the older man scoffed.
"Man, isn't anybody taking this seriously?! We got us a damn trail."
"Oh, here we go." I mumbled to Glenn as Shane stalked up to us.
"You with me, man?" He asked as he handed out guns. "Time to grow up. You already got yours?" He asked Andrea who nodded. "Yeah, where's Dale?"
"He's on his way." He handed me my handgun and I looked down at it in confusion. "Thought we couldn't carry?" I looked back up at his face. He was angry about something. "We can, and we have to. You don't wanna be treated like a kid? Now's your time." He said, gesturing the gun to me again, only this time I took it out of his hands.
"Look, it was one thing sitting around here picking daisies when we thought this place was supposed to be safe. But now we know it ain't. How about you man, you gonna protect yours?" He held out a gun to Glenn, he looked at me for a split second with his lips pursed into a thin line, before taking the gun from Shane, who then turned to Maggie. "How about you, can you shoot?"
"Can you stop?" Maggie scoffed in reply. "You do this, you hand out these guns, my dad will make you leave tonight."
"We have to stay Shane." Carl stepped forward with his head raised high.
"What is this? We ain't going anywhere, okay? Now look, Hershel, he's just gotta understand alright? He... well he's gonna have to." Shane told the young boy who shook his head. Not wanting any part of this.
"Now we need to find Sophia, am I right? Now, I want you to take this." He held out a small handgun to Carl and I widened my eyes in shock that we would just hand him a gun and tell him he has to use it. "You take it Carl, you take it and you keep your mother safe. You do whatever it takes. You know how, you take the gun and you do it."
I moved to stand in front of Carl, blocking him from Shane's advances. "Rick said no guns, this isn't your call. And you're not gonna make him take that."
"Oh shit." T-dog cursed, drawing everyone's attention to the patch of grass across from us. Where Rick was holding onto pole with a walker on the other end.
"What is that? What is that?!" Shane shouted as he started running off into Rick's direction, with all of us running behind him.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Shane shouted at Rick who just shook his head. "Back off, Shane."
"Why do your people have guns?" Hershel asked a general question that none of us could answer.
"Are you kidding me?! You see, you see what they're holding onto?" Shane asked us all as he couldn't believe quite what he was seeing.
"I see who I'm holding onto." Hershel told him and Shane scoffed a laugh. "No, man. You don't."
"Shane, just let us do this and we can talk." Rick tried to calm the situation down but Shane was having none of it.
"What you want to talk about Rick? These things ain't sick, they're not people. They're dead. Ain't gonna feel nothin for 'em cause all they do is kill! These things right here?" Shane gestured his arms to the walkers. "They're the things that killed Amy. They killed Otis. They're gonna kill all of us!"
"Shane shut up!" I shouted to him, but he just ignored me.
"Hey Hershel man, let me ask you something. Could a living breathing person, could they walk away from this?" He said as he shot the walker in the chest.
"That's three rounds in the chest. Could someone who's alive, could they just take that? Why's it still coming?!" He shot the walker two more times. "That's its heart, its lungs. Why's it still coming?!"
"Shane that's enough." I grabbed his arm and he nodded.
"Yeah, girl. Your right. That is enough." He fired the last bullet into the walkers head. "Enough risking our lives for a little girl who's gone!" He said right in my face. "Enough living next to a barn full of things that are trying to kill us!" He started walking over to the barn. "Enough, Rick. Things ain't like they were before! Now if y'all want to live, if you want to survive, you gotta fight for it! I'm talking about fighting right here, right now!" He started to break the chains that were holding the barn doors closed.
"Shane, stop!"
"Please!"
"Don't do it, Shane!" Everyone started shouting but he obviously wasn't hearing us as he continued to take the chains away from the door.
"Hershel! Take the snare pole, please!" Rick shouted at the older man, but as walkers started to pile out of the barn doors it was already decided that we were going to fight. I raised my gun first as Shane backed away from the doors. I held my gun up just under eye level and shot the walker Rick was stuck holding into in the head, it's body dropped to the floor the weight of it making Rick drop the pole attached to it. He looked at me and I gave him a singular nod in which he returned as the group all got ready to fire.
We all raise our guns, firing at the walkers that stumbled out the barn doors.
About 20 something walkers later there was a long pause where no walkers were coming out the barn. We thought that there was no more until a low growl and shuffling feet were heard from the other side of the doors.
Minutes later a small walker limped out the doors.
A small walker wearing a blue top with a rainbow in the middle and shirt blonde hair.
Sophia.
We all stood staring at the walker in shock before Carol got to her feet.
"Sophia? Sophia!" She ran towards the walker but Daryl caught her just in time to stop her.
After a few minutes of being frozen in shock Rick stepped forward, raising his gun he shot the walker in the head and we all watched as Sophia's lifeless body feel to the floor. Blood pooling out her head.
Sophia was dead.
She's been dead this whole time..
