At once Alyssa woke up, jumping out of bed to see it was dark outside her window.
"Gods, I'm going to miss dinner! And on my first night here." She scrambled to change her dress into something more formal. She reached for the first dress she could grab which was a deep red gown that synched in around her waist. It had red gems around the v-neck line and long sleeves that flared out.
As she walked into the dinner hall, she noted Aegon sitting far away from his wife. She also noted Luke across from Aemond and her mother and Alicent looking warily at each other. On the morrow Luke's claim would be heard and it all relied upon Alicent and Otto's judgement.
Viserys looked up as she walked in, "Welcome, dear granddaughter."
"Thank you, grandfather." She responded noticing Aemond smirking. She shot him a dirty look and took her place between Jace and Baela.
"Indeed welcome Alyssa, we did begin half an hour ago." Alicent stated rather abruptly.
Alyssa was stunned at this, "Sorry, your grace. I was tired from the journey and fell asleep."
Well that answered her question, Alicent still held no love for her or any of Rhaenyra's children.
As she began to eat, she noticed a pair of eyes staring at her. To her surprise, they were Aegon's. She looked at him questioningly but he did not lower his gaze. He's probably plotting something she thought and went back to eating.
Baela nudged her, "Sister, why is Aegon staring at you?"
Alyssa shrugged, playing with her food with the fork. "Your guess is as good as mine, Baela" she whispered back.
Alyssa looked over and saw Helaena eating silently and went over to her. By this point the music had started and her brothers and Rhaena were dancing like children besides the table.
"Hel, how are you?" Alyssa questioned pulling out the chair next to her.
"There is a beast beneath the boards" she replied staring down at the table. Alyssa was perplexed and looked up to Aemond who just stared back.
Alyssa knew she didn't like touch so she refrained from grabbing her arm and instead pointed to her brothers dancing and exclaimed "Let us join them, dear aunt."
With that they were up and mucking around all together. The levity of the situation they were there for had disappeared and they were kids once more as the adults continued eating. Even Helaena seemed to be enjoying herself which made Alyssa smile. She couldn't imagine what it would be like marrying Aegon and being forced to produce his heirs.
Aegon and Aemond however remained seated and watched them silently.
Jace scoffed quietly, "They just can't let others enjoy themselves can they?"
Alyssa looked at them and nodded, "Just ignore them, we have reason to celebrate. Mother speaks of betrothing you boys."
Both Jace and Luke stopped at once, "What?! To whom?" they questioned stopping in their tracks.
Alyssa laughed, "Now I can't tell you can I, it's a secret!" As she began walking back to the table.
"Alyssa!!" Jace called after her.
"Don't worry boys, you'll find out on the morrow" she replied as she found her seat once more at the table.
At that Aegon who had been watching her came over to sit next to her.
She was surprised at this but decided to use it to her advantage.
"Hello, uncle." She stated coldly.
"Surely I deserve a warmer greeting given our past history as friends?" He grinned turning to face her.
"I don't recall such a history, Aegon. Besides your mother wasn't too warm in greeting me before."
Aegon laughed, "She's worse with me, trust me."
"She's your mother, she loves you. Despite all the trouble I'm sure you cause" Alyssa stated.
"And what trouble would that be? I've heard stories of your misadventures on Dragonstone so we may not be all the different" Aegon said smirking.
"I don't abandon my wife and children like you do, that's the main difference." Alyssa responded coldly.
"I didn't want any of this, I am not suited to marriage or children. I'd rather live alone in Pentos, dear niece."
Alyssa furrowed her brows, "You have everything, how can you not be grateful?"
"What should I be grateful for? I suppose my legitimacy is one thing." He laughed noting the frown on her face.
"Thanks for showing me your true nature, Aegon" She got up and excused herself, walking back to her chambers. It seemed her and her brothers would never put the rumours behind them. She couldn't say she was surprised about Aegon's character, she did not expect much and he provided even less.
She had to remind herself of the important things, like supporting Luke's claim tomorrow and learning to rule Dragonstone. Aegon was none of her worries.
