Alyssa sat alone in her chambers. Her mind racing between memories of the past with her family, the same family that had left her abandoned amongst their enemies. It was beyond her how Aemond could commit such an act. How he could become a kingslayer. Why did he have to go this far? Hadn't it all been innocent fighting until then and now war was guaranteed.

She had been sending ravens to her mother in her time at the Keep but she had neglected to write to her brothers. She felt guilty, she had simply assumed that they would not have paid any mind to the goings on of the Keep but Luke was sensitive, he was gentle. He would have appreciated her letters. Before she could begin crying again, she heard a knock at her door.

She got up, still in her nightgown and opened the door to find Alicent Hightower standing in front of her. Alyssa could not even find the words to say, she was exhausted and didn't have the energy to argue.

"Princess, I wanted to give you my condolences. It-it shouldn't have happened." Alicent stammered avoiding eye contact.

Alyssa looked at her, "well it's already happened." She offered matter of factly.

"Well I had no part in it, it is the vengeance that he held..." she trailed on as Alyssa rolled her eyes.

"Is that all?" Alyssa questioned looking back into her chambers to show her discomfort at Alicent's presence.

"No it is not, I feel indebted to you. So I will offer you my leave to go back to Dragonstone to be with your family. It is not fair to hold you here... especially after this." Alicent nodded almost reassuring herself.

"I can go back?" Alyssa's face lit up, after weeks of being apart from her family she would finally be with them once more. Even if Luke wasn't there.

"Yes" Alicent responded sternly.

Alyssa nodded confused "And may I ask why you of all people are helping me?"

Alicent looked at her, her childhood best friend's daughter whose image mirrored her mother's. "Like I said, I want to see you reunited with your family" she replied curtly.

Despite her years of hatred towards the Queen, Alyssa had to admit her gratitude, "Well I thank you for this, my Queen."

Alicent turned beginning to leave before stating, "You can thank Aegon as well, Princess."

She turned and continued walking, leaving Alyssa perplexed at Aegon's role in the scheme. Was it possible that he had genuinely taken pity on her and decided to act for once in his life?

She decided that she had no time to ponder, she reentered her chambers and began packing her belongings.

As she made her way down to the throne room, she wondered if she should say goodbye to Aegon, they had become friends or lovers or something in her time there and she knew that he had a part in letting her go free. But thinking it best not to further complicate things, especially among her family's enemies, she left silently without leaving a trace of her presence behind. Whatever her confusing thoughts were about him would have to stay that, confusing thoughts uttered to no one.

Finally she found herself reunited with her dragon after going so long without being about to ride her. At last she began the journey back home to her family, her head spinning with questions and doubts.

As soon as she dismounted Silverwing she could tell that Dragonstone was different, there was an air of urgency around that was previously unfamiliar to her. Dragonstone was always a warm and inviting place that was calm and organised. Now it felt like it was in disarray and muddled. There were guards everywhere and it was starting to seem a lot more like the Red Keep than Dragonstone.

Upon arriving she instantly went off to find her mother but to no avail. She had searched every corner of the castle and could not find her. At once she returned to the main room to find Jace.

He looked worn out and exhausted, like he had been travelling for months on dragonback. But more so he looked surprised to see his sister there.

"Alyssa?"

She ran up to him and embraced him, "Why did this have to happen?" choking back tears.

Jace stepped back and began to explain to her all that had happened in the weeks she was away. It surprised her at first that her mother had sent her brothers out as political messengers. But then again she herself had been used in a political scheme of her mother's in her time in King's Landing so she could not be fully surprised.

Once he had caught her up on everything, he questioned her, "Mother said you were to remain there as our eyes and ears whilst trying to find a suitable match, so did you find anyone?"

Alyssa furrowed her brows for a second, "Your eyes and ears? Was I left there as some sort of spy? Mother only told me that I was to find a suitor there. She mentioned nothing of spying on the Hightowers." And in terms of his second point regarding a suitable match, how could she ever begin to tell him that the only man she ever spoke to was their uncle Aegon? She could already imagine the confusion and betrayal from him.

Jace grinned, "So I take it you never found anyone then, dear sister. And yes, mother does have a way of not divulging all of the details of her plans. Speaking of which, she has been absent now for almost a week. No one knows where she went, not even Daemon."

Alyssa signed, "well that explains why I haven't been able to find her anywhere. Anyways, I'd better go see Joff and see how he is." She hugged Jace and retreated to find her little brother.
