The next morning came quickly and Alyssa was once again thrust into breakfast with the Hightowers. She had spent the night tossing and turning and pondering her own role in the war so daylight came as a pleasant surprise for her when she was awoken for breakfast.
She noticed Aemond eyeing her as they ate which was unsettling. He was probably relishing in the fact that he took her brother away from her. Alyssa shivered, how did he become so cold and twisted? She ignored him and focused on eating. Helaena was once more muttering things under her breath and Alyssa made a mental note to go and visit her later to offer her any comfort that she could.
Her job for the morning however would be gaining Alicent's trust and being allowed into the small council meetings. She knew she would have to win her trust over somehow but before she could even try, Ser Criston entered the room and asked for Aemond.
Alyssa watched Alicent's eyes follow her son as he left the room and she looked back at the table confused. Aegon soon got up and followed him out as Alicent trailed behind him. That left just Alyssa and Helaena at the table to eat alone.
Alyssa continued eating but her restlessness was eating her up inside. She wanted to know why Ser Criston had asked for Aemond at such a time. Had something happened with her family? Were they planning at attack on Dragonstone?
Alyssa got up at once very suddenly as Helaena looked up confused. She mumbled an apology and left the room without looking back. She could barely remember where the Small Council room was located so she traversed the hallways for a while quite possibly looking lost until she finally heard what sounded like high Valyrian being spoken. Alyssa had always prided herself on being able to speak her family's tongue better than her brothers and quite possibly better than her entire family so she recognised it at once. But who would be speaking high Valyrian?
She inched herself closer to the door it seemed to be coming from and stood with her back to one side of the double doors. She quickly realised that it was Aemond speaking to Aegon but she could not hear Aegon responding. It seemed as if Aemond was challenging Aegon's authority which puzzled Alyssa. He did always seem better to rule but Alyssa like the rest of her family thought him extremely loyal to his brother and mother.
At once the door next to her opened and she flinched as Aegon himself stormed out. She turned to face the other way so he would not see her but she was too late, he noticed her instantly and without saying a word grabbed her by the arm and lead her down the hallway. She opened her mouth to protest but he covered it with his palm before she could get a word out.
Finally he stopped and pulled her into what seemed to be one of the servant's storage rooms. She pushed his hand off her but before she could speak he started.
"You know what danger you are putting yourself in? Spying about the halls, Princess?" he mocked her.
Alyssa rolled her eyes and turned to leave but before she could she felt Aegon grab her arm and pull her towards him.
She felt his gaze on her and she met his eyes firmly.
"What?" she questioned.
"Don't you think I deserve an explanation? I got you out of here but now you've chosen to return?" he continued, "Couldn't stay away could you, Princess?"
Alyssa laughed, "First you have to tell me what you have been talking about with your men in these council meetings. If I am to fight for your side then I need to know these things, Aegon." she stated expecting him to divulge every detail of their plans so she could inform her mother.
But it seemed Aegon did not even know his plans himself, "Well... it seems that my brother and Ser Criston are the ones with all the plans. Even though I am their king they do not tell me anything."
Alyssa was disappointed but figured it made sense. Aegon had never shown any interest in ruling or war strategies, whereas Aemond was so well suited to these cold military actions.
"Doesn't that annoy you?" she questioned slightly leaning in towards him and looking at his lips. She would have to seduce the information out of him somehow. She reminded herself that he didn't even seem to know it but still, a little seduction would not go awry.
Aegon leaned in closed and she stepped back, her back hitting the stone wall.
"It does annoy me, but what annoys me more is you avoiding me, Princess. Pretending there's nothing between us in front of my family."
Alyssa blushed and pressed her back further into the wall. She could feel her heart beating in her chest and wondered if Aegon could hear it. She felt so shy all of a sudden and that was not like her, what was Aegon doing to make her feel like this? She decided to find her confidence and shock Aegon for once, to get a reaction out of him like he did to her.
"What would you have me do? Let you take me at the breakfast table in front of your brother and mother?" she questioned mockingly looking into his eyes. Alyssa could see him tense up as his grip on her arms tightened. She continued mocking him, "That wouldn't be very lady-like would it, your grace?" She inched ever so closer to him and she could see his eyes darken in the dimly candle lit room.
"Your grace?" he questioned looking confused.
Alyssa giggled, "You are king aren't you?" she questioned touching his nose with hers ever so gently. It seemed he had lost his senses and that was her goal, aside from of course what her mother had sent her back here to do. Still, a bit of fun with Aegon couldn't hurt.
She was so close that she could smell him, he smelt like wine and pastries? She figured he spent the last night out drinking in the city.
Finally he kissed her lips lightly and said, "I am, but today I want to serve you."
"Then do it." Alyssa responded with a smirk as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
He kissed her again, "I've missed you, Princess."
Her heart fluttered at that and she kissed him back passionately.
