Chapter 36

Winter evenings always bring darkness earlier than the other seasons, and for a hilly region like Pindaya, dusk comes fast conveying the bone chilling breeze. The horizon looses its shine, the ambiance suddenly shifting to unfamiliar gloom. These kind of moments are the ones where you stay indoors with some heater on because even the very breath you take outside, could make your wind pipes sting from the cold.

Thuriya looked up the clock and stood up in haste.

"It's been two hours....I'm going to find her.."

Sai stood up, standing in front of him. His hands stopped Thuriya from moving forward.

"No wait....Thuriya listen to me...You mustn't act in haste."

"In haste.!? It's been two fucking hours Sai....she could be in danger!!"

"She can be anywhere...you don't want to storm into the hunter's lair and make a scene that would jeopardize our lives!!!" Sai Lun grabbed Thuriya's shoulders, refusing to let go.

But Thuriya pushed him back away.

"There will be No Life without her Sai!!!..". He panted, his eyes drenched in fear. "I will cease to exist if something happens to her...I...."

He didn't even get to finish what he's saying when he heard a scream from downstairs.

It was a voice of a woman which was probably Ma Nge.

"!!!! Oh my god..."

Both Thuriya and Sai Lun looked to the door and they heard U Htee next.

"Good lord!!...Rose...Young master....young master.!!!"

Thuriya ran to the door and it was pushed open as soon as he got to it. Through it, came three people.

U Htee, Ma Nge and Rose who's being carried into the room by them from each arm.

"Rose...!!!"

Thuriya immediately carried her off from U Htee and Ma Nge's hands. He felt her body cold and rigid as he put her down on the couch.

She was panting in short breaths and was covered in sweat and tears.

Blood streaks run on her face. Several bruises on her elbows and shoulders looked painful. Thuriya didn't know what to do, except he held her hands in trembling embrace.

"Rose...Rose... tell me what happened..Rose.."

Thuriya hugged her in his arms where Rose started to weep like a child.

"Oh god....please....Rosie.."

The once stern expression in Thuriya's face broke down, with Rose sobbing uncontrollably in his arms, his eyes turned restless.

Sai Lun took a deep breath before turning away, closing his eyes. Defeat loomed on his face as he's already guessed the possible reason behind Rose's tragedy.

Rose cried for like a minute but then she suddenly got up from Thuriya's arms, anxiously looking outside.

"What time is it....what...oh my god is it already nighttime?"

Thuriya grabbed her hand, trying to hold her down on the couch.

"Rosie....you have to tell me what happened first."

"Oh No...no no no..we have to go..we have to go now.." Rose said, ignoring to Thuriya. Her eyes darting outside the house with terror.

"Rosie.....where are we going....you have to calm down.."

"No..he said until the moon comes up shining....I ...I don't have time...we have to go.."

Rose kept pulling away, trying to get up with all her strength while Thuriya tried bringing her down.
