ANGIE'S HEART POUNDED IN her chest as she reached for the doorknob. She knew Ollie was on the other side, but part of her still couldn't believe it. After almost two months of talking, calling almost every day, texting constantly, she was finally, finally, going to see him again.
There was no way this was her real life.
The soft sound of a hit came from behind Angie, causing the girl to whip her head around, her hand still wrapped around the cold doorknob. Her sisters were peering around the corner, Emilie having hit Mathilda for being too obvious with her spying. Angie gave her sisters a death glare, the two girls running off before they could be reprimanded further.
Angie took one last deep breath, rolling her shoulders back, and pulling the front door open. A gush of cold air distracted her for a moment, but it didn't take long for her eyes to find Ollie's face.
He stood with his hands behind his back, his cheeks pink from the cold Geneva air. He wore jeans, sneakers, and a very cozy looking puffer coat. His head was covered by a winter hat, with only the ends of his brown hair peeking out. Angie knew he was tall, around 6'1, but for some reason, seeing him in person, he was much taller than she thought he'd be.
Angie stood in silence for a moment, simply taking the sight of him in. He seemed to be doing the same, his eyes darting down to her brown shoes and making their way back up to her face.
"Hey." Ollie said when their eyes met, rocking backwards and forwards slightly. A nervous smile spread across his lips, quickly mirrored by Angie.
"Hi." Angie replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I uh..." Ollie brought his hands in front of him, revealing a bouquet of red tulips in his hands. "I brought you these."
Angie's smile went from nervous to giddy. She took the flowers from Ollie's hands, their fingers brushing only for the moment. His hands were cold, but warmth still shot through Angie's body. With slight apprehension, she wrapped her arms around Ollie's neck, giving him a hug.
Ollie's nerves seemed to melt away as he slid his arms around Angie's waist, hugging her back. His embrace was strong and steady, but not too tight. He felt warm.
Despite not being all that short, sitting at around 5'5, Angie had to stand slightly on her tiptoes to be able to hug the boy comfortably. She held on for one more moment, taking in the earthy, woody smell. It almost reminded Angie of the sandalwood diffuser her mom liked to put on the living room.
Angie pulled away, giving Ollie a smile. The moment was broken by a loud shh! from behind them. Angie whipped around, unsurprised to see her sisters watching the whole scene with smiles and wide eyes.
"Angie has a boyfriend!" Mathilda cackled, Emilie smacking her hard over the head in response.
"Shut up!"
Angie crossed her arms, glaring at her sisters, completely unamused. "Where's dad and Hannah?"
"In the living room!" Emilie replied, grabbing Mathilda and running down the hall, likely into the living room so they could see the first interaction between Ollie and their father.
Angie rolled her eyes, turning back to Ollie, who looked completely lost. All the German had flown straight over his head. Angie found the confused look on his face to be absolutely adorable.
"Everything alright?" Ollie asked.
"Yeah." Angie assured him, holding her flowers close to her chest. "Just my sisters being annoying. Let me put these in some water, then we can say hi to my dad and then head out."
