Rick was the only one who knew of Johnathan's plan. Not even Beth knew. It had to look real, and if her betrayel didn't seem real, it would blow the whole thing. But Johnathan knew she would be furious with him. He hated he couldn't tell her, she was carrying their child and he was leaving her alone, unprotected. Johnathan listened to the snarling and growling of the walkers. He was trapped, with no food or water.
Johnathan wondered why in this moment he had to be the brave one. He was trapped with two people who had became like family to him, but for two completely different reasons. One, had made sure he survived his home life and through his teenage years and had been his main provider at one point. And the other, while it may have taken him awhile, he learned to protect the group and he and Johnathan had survived together.
Johnathan leaned his head back on the wall. He wondered how many of his people had died, and who. And he wondered how they were doing taking down all of the saviour outposts. He wondered if people were reuniting with their families. And he wondered how Beth felt when his group went home and he wasn't there. He wondered how many people from the kingdom and the hilltop were still living.
"Your friend Rick is an asshole." Negan spoke after a while, glancing at Gabriel.
"You're an asshole." Gabriel rebutted.
Negan laughed quietly before agreeing. "Yeah. I am. But he's gonna get people killed."
"By you." Gabriel told him.
"See, I killed the widow's husband and the ginger." Negan spoke causing Johnathan to tense at the mention of Glenn. "But I didn't get them killed. That was your boy Rick. Big difference." It was silent for a moment before Negan continued. "You know, I saw you stop for that Gregory idiot. You were there. You saw the whole thing. You heard his little speech. Why would you stop for that bearded prick?"
Gabriel looked down, silent for a moment before he spoke. "What I fear is a fruitless death."
Johnathan and Negan both let out laughs. "Jesus Christ." Johnathan scoffed. "That's what you're scared of?"
